Rising Stars: Meet Yunggod

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yunggod.

yunggod

Hi Yunggod, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hip Hop is not something you do, but it’s who you are. Before I ever wrote my first lyrics, I was Hip Hop. That’s the beautiful thing about it. That’s why I fell in love with it. I wasn’t allowed to listen to rap growing up, but I always found a way. Whether it was a DMX documentary on VH1 or staying up past my bedtime to watch Street Flava on UPN (y’all remember Street Flava?!?) I always found a way to get my fix. I’m still learning how to navigate my way through the music industry, but the love of the music is why I’m here today. And why I will succeed in my mission of being one of the greatest artist of all time

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
HELL THE F**K NO!!! If you’re somebody who’s really tryna figure this music thing out, you’ll fail more times than most are even willing to try. My biggest issue is marketing myself. To my own detriment, at times, I enjoy occupying my own space. I’m someone who’d much rather be in the studio than at the function. I figured out the hard way being a musician is much more than what you can do in the booth. You gotta go outside and talk to people. Your name could be Kendrick La’Aubrey Drake Cole; if nobody knows who you are, they’ll never know WHO you are. I’m still learning.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I often tell people I’m a soul musician when they ask what I do. I feel it’s an artist’s responsibility to make people feel, and that’s what I do best. Different songs draw out different emotions, but whenever you hear my music, you’re gonna feel something.

I’m proudest of myself for keeping the faith. When you’re moving according to your own timeline, sometimes you can feel like your efforts are in vain. But more often than not, your timeline and God’s are diametrically opposed. I’ve learned to focus on the things I can control and let God handle the rest.

How do you define success?
Success is doing what you love every day and being able to live off it. To swipe your card and never have to open your banking app. To make your family proud. To make yourself proud. That is success.
