Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Handy.
Hi Yvonne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I earned a degree in psychology because I was fascinated by people and wanted to help those who felt lost find their way. Life took me in a different direction than I originally planned, and I spent many years raising my son while building a career as a piano teacher and later as a coach. Along the way, I found myself continually searching for approaches that could help people create meaningful change in their lives.
That search led me through coaching, hypnosis, intuitive work, meditation, and eventually writing. In 2023, I published How to Be Your Own Spiritual Guide, a book inspired by the tools and practices I had used with clients to help them turn inward and discover their own answers rather than relying solely on outside guidance.
Throughout all of these experiences, one thread remained constant: a deep interest in helping people cultivate greater awareness, presence, and connection with themselves. That interest eventually led me to sound-based contemplative practices and the transformative effects of gongs and singing bowls.
After training with these instruments, I became fascinated by how accessible deep relaxation and meditation could become when supported by sound. That experience inspired me to create Quietarium Sanctuarium, a contemplative space in my home where guests can experience guided relaxation, stillness, and restorative sound sessions.
Today, my work brings together many of the passions that have shaped my life—psychology, teaching, coaching, meditation, sound, and personal growth.
Whether I’m teaching music, guiding a sound session, or simply sharing a conversation, my goal remains the same: to help people slow down, reconnect with themselves, and experience a greater sense of peace, clarity, and well-being.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been realizing that this kind of work requires you to continually face yourself. Every new chapter has asked me to move through self-doubt, uncertainty, fear, and the temptation to play small. I’ve had to learn to trust my instincts, acknowledge my gifts, and keep moving forward even when I wasn’t entirely sure I was heading in the right direction.
Of course, there have been practical challenges as well. Building a business, attracting clients, and creating something sustainable takes persistence and patience. But for me, the deeper challenge has always been balancing service with sustainability. In work centered around personal growth, healing, and well-being, success isn’t measured solely by profit or growth. It’s also measured by the impact you have on people’s lives.
Finding that balance between purpose and practicality, between helping others and building something sustainable has been one of the most valuable lessons of my journey. It has required me to continually grow, adapt, and learn more about myself along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Today, my work centers around creating experiences that help people slow down, reconnect with themselves, and cultivate greater peace and clarity. Through Quietarium Sanctuarium, I facilitate sound-based contemplative experiences using gongs, Tibetan singing bowls, breathwork, gentle movement, and guided relaxation. I also bring decades of experience in music education, coaching, and personal development to the work I do.
What sets me apart is my belief that people already possess their own inner wisdom. My role is not to tell people what to think, what to do, or how to live their lives. Instead, I strive to create an environment where they feel seen, heard, understood, and safe enough to explore their own truth.
Whether I’m teaching music, facilitating a sound session, guiding a contemplative practice, or simply having a conversation, my focus is on meeting people where they are rather than trying to change or deny their reality. I have found that when people feel truly accepted and supported, they become more willing to listen to that quiet inner voice that often gets drowned out by stress, fear, expectations, and the noise of everyday life.
My journey through psychology, coaching, hypnosis, meditation, sound work, and teaching has reinforced a simple belief: while guidance and support are valuable, each person ultimately has to live their own life and make their own choices. No one knows their inner world better than they do. I see my work as helping people reconnect with themselves, trust their own wisdom, and discover the answers that are already within them.
That philosophy is at the heart of everything I do and every space I create.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I believe we will see an increasing demand for practices and experiences that help people release stress, tension, and reconnect with themselves. The world continues to move faster, become more demanding, and generate more stimulation than ever before. I see the effects of this not only in adults, but also in children who are growing up under constant pressure from technology, social media, and the expectations of modern life.
While there is growing awareness of the benefits of meditation, mindfulness, and other wellness practices, many people still struggle to access those benefits consistently.
Traditional meditation can be incredibly powerful, but it often requires time, patience, and regular practice before people begin experiencing deeper results. I believe there is a growing need for approaches that make relaxation, stillness, and self-awareness more accessible and approachable.
What excites me about sound-based contemplative practices is their simplicity. People don’t have to learn a complicated technique or try to force a particular outcome. They can simply show up, settle in, and allow themselves to receive the experience. In a world where so much effort is required just to get through the day, I believe people are increasingly drawn to practices that are effective, affordable, non-intimidating, and easy to integrate into everyday life.
Ultimately, I believe the future of this industry is not just about sound, meditation, or any particular modality. It’s about helping people find meaningful relief from chronic stress and creating opportunities for them to experience more peace, clarity, and connection with themselves.
