Rising Stars: Meet Zoe Collette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Collette.

Hi Zoe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The idea to start the business goes back to when we were younger and our father started his own business in his 40s.

He wanted to start an International goods trade business with Jamaica and China, but he died shortly, in 1996 from lung cancer. As we got older we felt the generational pull to continue and open our own businesses.

The company is owned and operated by Zoe Collette and Georgia Green, sisters and veterans of the healthcare industry with deep experiences in caring for others. Before making the leap to ownership, I worked at Memorial Hermann Hospital ICU-The Medical Center- for 10 years as a Registered Nurse, then I completed my Adult Gero/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree. I then decided to further pursue my nursing career and received my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). I am the first “doctor” in my family and I felt that was a very big accomplishment. I feel with my DNP degree it will help the business to grow.

We have since adopted the mantra that “one person caring about another represents life’s greatest value” and they feel it is their duty to put that sentiment into practice as we launched our own home care company.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We have had some speed bumps along the way: Challenges: slow holiday season, not familiar with the business accept of running a business, lots of dead leads territory division- finding clients in different zip codes that need services but we are unable to service them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a Nurse Practitioner. I specialized in Internal Medicine. I currently work for the Psychiatry department. My most proud personal goal: I received my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in May 2020. My proudest accomplishment: completing the MS150!!! Most proud: my two sons.

Currently running home care, nonmedical Business in Alvin Texas with business partner Georgia Green. We would like individuals to know that there are services out there for people who want to provide care for their loved ones right in the comfort of their own homes. We are very excited that we have had this opportunity to start this business and help others

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Find a mentor who is familiar with whatever area you are interested in For nursing, find a mentor who has been in the field for a while loves the job, and loves teaching. someone who can push you to your best potential
go to training/in-services/luncheons on topics that will help you grow as an individual
never stop reading and learning.

What I wish I knew: is that I can keep growing and improving within my field and that I don’t have to stay in one area. Also that you don’t need a business background to run a business, you just need a nice support system set in place to help you be successful.
