Story & Lesson Highlights with Angelica Sammons of North Houston/Woodlands/Conroe

Angelica Sammons shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Angelica , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I hate to admit it, but I find myself wandering these days. My carefully charted path was dramatically altered, not by my choice, but by the instability of circumstances beyond my control.

When my family faced significant loss, I made the difficult decision to sacrifice my business to rebuild what was lost. While the repercussions of another’s judgment initially felt catastrophic, decimating my life’s work and affecting us all, this experience has also revealed an incredible capacity for adaptation within me. I’m now rebuilding, brick by brick, on a different path entirely—one I’m discovering holds new purpose and potential.

Though the memory of a broken promise makes future ventures feel less certain, I am choosing to see this new beginning not as a tentative grasp, but as a testament to my enduring spirit and an opportunity to create something even stronger.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello readers! I’m Angelica Sammons, a chef and entrepreneur with a passion for creating delicious, comforting food. My culinary journey spans over two decades, starting from a bus girl to becoming an owner and chef. I believe food is my love language, and I strive to make every plate a beacon of that love.

My story is one of resilience and a deep love for food. I’ve faced significant obstacles, and personal challenges, but I’ve always adapted and found new ways to share my culinary creations. I’m most proud of the reputation I’ve garnered as a chef/owner, consistently striving to provide great food and a memorable experience, no matter the setting. I’m excited about the future.

I am currently operating Lip Smackers Food Truck and Catering, also working with “Chef’s For Seniors”. As a private chef. Both paths afford me flexibility in my life to be available to my family. Couldn’t have hoped for a better or more agreeable turn of events.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
For me, the part that’s served its purpose is the old self, built on people-pleasing and conformity. I’ve realized that trying to be everything for everyone is an exhausting, impossible task.

The constant pressure to meet endless expectations and the feeling of not being true to myself was a heavy burden. I was so busy trying to do it all, that I lost sight of who I really was.
This endless race meant I was running constantly and not taking time for self-care, which led to burnout. Now, I understand that my worth isn’t tied to others’ approval.

It’s time to release that old version of myself to embrace authenticity and prioritize my own well-being. This is a journey of letting go to truly grow.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
In the past, after a significant setback, I would have been tempted to give up on the project entirely. I had a hard time separating my own efforts from the actions of others, especially when their poor decisions led to the failure. I used to think that cutting my losses and moving on was the only way to avoid repeated disappointment.

However, a recent experience changed my mind. My biggest failure stemmed directly from a trusted partners, inconsiderate choices. Instead of walking away, I decided to take a different approach. I saw the failure not as a reflection of my own abilities but as a challenge to overcome. I learned that letting someone else’s negativity or lack of foresight derail my goals was a form of letting them win.

It became a powerful lesson in resilience and self-advocacy. I now believe that true failure is not the setback itself, but the act of surrendering to it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say that authenticity is what really matters to me. They know I place a high value on being genuine and true to myself, no matter the situation. This means being unapologetically who I am, and never diminishing my character to make others more comfortable. I’m honest to a fault, so my words and actions are always aligned with my beliefs. My friends would tell you that I strive for a sense of inner certainty that makes my character unshakeable, and that I deeply respect the same quality in others.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
This is a powerful question. If I were to strip away my name, my job title, and all my possessions, what would remain is my indomitable spirit, a strong sense of purpose, and the meaningful relationships I’ve built. I believe my true identity is rooted in my work ethic and the drive to inspire my family. My accomplishments are not just for me; they are a source of pride and a way to set an example. Ultimately, what would remain are the bonds with my friends and family, and the core values that guide me to be a better person.
