We recently had the chance to connect with Beauté Harleaux and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Beauté, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m walking a very intentional path. I’ve learned that even when life looks like wandering, there’s usually purpose in the process. Every step I’ve taken – from the military to cosmetology, motherhood, entrepreneurship, and now teaching – has been guided by a desire to serve, help people feel seen, and create solutions. I don’t always know every turn ahead, but I move with clarity, faith, and strategy. I’m not wandering—I’m evolving.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Beauté Harleaux, a licensed cosmetologist, Navy veteran, and beauty business mentor based in Memorial City – Houston, TX. I own Unconscious Beauté Studio, where I specialize in medical wigs, luxury extensions, and textured hair care. My studio is unique because it blends beauty, education, and healing – I don’t just style hair, I help people regain confidence during some of their most vulnerable moments.
What started as a salon behind the chair has evolved into a space for empowerment, especially for those experiencing hair loss and for professionals looking to expand beyond traditional beauty work. Right now, I’m working on developing resources to help more people care for textured hair properly, and support beauty professionals in growing as CEOs, not just service providers.
My journey has been about turning lived experience into impact. Whether I’m serving clients, consulting, or creating tools for others, my goal is always the same – to help people feel seen, capable, and confident in their power.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My late aunt, Michelle Cummings. She believed in me long before I fully believed in myself. In high school, she was the only one who supported my dreams and allowed my to style hair in her extra den. In hair school, she was my only model even when if I just did her hair the week before. She would still show up for me. And in 2018, she was the only person who showed up with my kids to watch me graduate from Texas Southern University. She always told me, “Take people as they come,” and I live by that to this day. Her quiet support helped me become who I am now during the times I really needed it.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me how to slow down, listen, and build strength from the inside out. Success can make you feel powerful, but hardship teaches you who you really are when everything is stripped away. It showed me the importance of grace – for myself and others – and reminded me that leadership starts with healing, not perfection.
Struggle taught me patience, faith, and how to create from a place of purpose rather than pressure. Success might prove what you can do, but pain revealed why I do it.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’ve evolved a lot over the years. The woman people see today is real – but she’s also the result of growth, discipline, and healing. I used to be what I call a certified “crash out,” reacting to life instead of building it. Now, I’ve become the businesswoman I once didn’t believe I could be, and I’m still growing. What you see is me – elevated. I’m not finished yet.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I helped them feel seen, capable, and cared for. That I used my gifts to serve – not just to succeed. I want them to remember that I didn’t just do hair or build businesses… I helped restore confidence, opened doors, and created space for others to grow.
That I was resilient, honest, and unafraid to evolve. And that through everything, I showed up with purpose and made people believe they could do the same.
