Story & Lesson Highlights with Elia Cano of Spring

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Elia Cano. Check out our conversation below.

Elia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me starts with 30 quiet minutes to myself before my 3 year old wakes up. As a busy mom, boss, and wife, those moments of calm are everything! I try to fit in a little morning meditation whenever I can – it really helps me center myself and get organized for the day ahead.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an established hairstylist in the Spring area, proudly running my own business since 2018. Being my own boss has given me the freedom to create a schedule that beautifully works for both my career and my family. I’ve been in the hair industry for eight years, and I truly love what I do. I’m especially grateful for my loyal clients who’ve supported me throughout my journey-they’re like family to me. I specialize in the art of balayage, a customized technique that allows me to create unique looks tailored to each clients individual style and vision. No two days are ever the same! Whether I’m working on a fresh new balayage, full highlights, a root retouch, or a haircut, I love the creativity each service brings. Education is a huge part of my craft- this industry is always evolving and I make it a priority to stay current with new techniques and trends.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
In the beginning, I often doubted myself when taking on new services I hadn’t performed before. I would worry whether the client would truly love their hair after leaving my chair. Over time, through experience and ongoing education, I’ve developed the confidence to welcome every new client with excitement. I’ve also learned that not every client will be the perfect fit- and that’s okay. I’m confident enough to refer them to another stylist who can bring their vision to life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could go back and talk to my younger self, I’d tell her to have confidence and trust the process. Take everything one step at a time and never compare yourself to others – your individuality is your strength. Focus on what you love most, and your passion, skills, and talents will naturally shine through.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m as genuine as they come – what you see is what you get with me. I always try to stay true to myself, because I believe the kind of energy and character you put out is what you attract in return. Having clients who have the same vibes makes what I do feel less like a job and more like a passion I get to share with amazing people every day.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The day that I’m gone, I’d love for people to say that I inspired them -that they could truly feel the passion and happiness I brought was more than just a service. It was a lifelong friendship and sense of freedom that allowed me to share my talent and smiles from the heart.
