Gabriel Rice shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Gabriel, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes! I’m currently in school studying to become a diagnostic medical sonographer. I just finished my Introduction to health professionals class and I’m proud of myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gabriel Rice I am a self publishing author of a children’s book with my daughter Milan Perkins titled “Mommy is coming!” “Mommy is Coming” is a fun and captivating story that reassures little ones that Mommy always comes back, no matter how long the day feels.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship I have with my Uncle Alex shaped how I see myself. Growing up my Uncle Alex was my hero in fact he still is. I looked up to him and everything that he was accomplishing. Seeing him make his dreams come true instilled the drive and determination in me that I could also make mine come true. I always wanted to make him proud ever since I was a kid. Seeing him be the legend that he is shaped me to be the woman I am. He spoke life into myself and my cousins showing us what could be. My Uncle Alex is the man! Always have been and always will be. #Busted
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Writing! I’ve always used writing as a way to express myself. Rather I was writing a rap, a poem, or a story I wrote. I learned very early on that writing for me was a stress reliever. Writing my feelings down and going back to read it helped me out a lot at managing and expressing my emotions.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I say this all the time. What you see is what you get. I’m the same person in any room.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m with my daughter. Any time I’m in her presence and see them tight eyes and that beautiful smile I’m instantly at peace.
