We recently had the chance to connect with Jennifer Cleaver and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is anything but ordinary—it’s a full, beautiful whirlwind. I start my mornings very early as a full-time veterinary dermatology technician, caring for pets with complex skin conditions and supporting their families through treatment plans. It’s deeply rewarding work that keeps me grounded in compassion and science.
Once I’m home, I shift gears into small business mode with Bear & Little Co. Whether I’m designing pet memorial ornaments, engraving a handwritten necklace, or photographing new designs, I pour my heart into every piece. My evenings are often spent editing, cutting orders, or connecting with customers on Instagram/facebook, all while maintaining my home and taking care of my family.
Being a wife and mom adds another layer of love and purpose to my day. It’s a constant balancing act, but each role feeds the other. My work in veterinary medicine inspires my art, my business fuels my creativity, and my family keeps me centered. It’s busy, yes—but it’s also incredibly meaningful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there! I’m Jennifer—a full-time veterinary dermatology technician, small business owner, wife, and mom. I wear a lot of hats, but at the heart of everything I do is a deep love for animals, storytelling, and meaningful connection.
I run Bear & Little Co, a handmade gift shop where I create personalized keepsakes that celebrate love, memory, and individuality. From baby signs, earrings and engraved jewelry to custom ornaments and memorial pieces, each item is designed to hold emotional weight and tell a story. What makes my brand unique is the blend of science and soul—I spend my days helping pets heal, and my evenings crafting pieces that honor their place in our lives.
Bear & Little Co was born from a desire to create something heartfelt and lasting. I wanted to offer more than just pretty products—I wanted to offer comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging. Right now, I’m expanding my line of laser-engraved jewelry and refining my design process to make each piece even more personal and polished. I’m also working on new ornament designs that bring a touch of whimsy to the holidays.
Whether I’m in the clinic or the studio, my goal is the same: to make people feel seen, supported, and celebrated. I’m so grateful to share this journey and connect with others who value the little things that mean the most.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I felt powerful the first time I made something that helped someone heal. It was a small memorial ornament for a customer who had just lost her dog. She messaged me saying it brought her comfort in a way she hadn’t expected. That’s when I realized that art could be more than beautiful—it could be meaningful. That’s the kind of power I want to carry forward in everything I create.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time I almost gave up—more than once, honestly. Running a small business while working full-time, being a mom, and trying to pour my heart into every creation felt overwhelming. I started questioning whether I was worthy of the attention, the growth, the praise. Imposter syndrome crept in hard. I’d look at other artists and brands and wonder, “Why would anyone choose mine?”
But then I’d get a message from a customer who cried when they opened their pet memorial ornament. Or someone would tell me that my engraved handwritten jewelry helped them feel close to a loved one they’d lost. Those moments reminded me that this isn’t just about products—it’s about connection, healing, and heart. I realized that worthiness isn’t something you wait to feel—it’s something you build by showing up, even when it’s hard.
So yes, I almost gave up. But I didn’t. And every time I create something that brings comfort or joy, I’m reminded why I stayed.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Oh gosh, I really hope people think so! I really love animals and creating and working really hard to make others happy. So I hope that is what people see when they see my posts online or visit my website or send me a personal message.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I could. And in many ways, I already have. So much of what I do—whether it’s in the clinic or running my small business, is driven by love, not applause. Of course, praise is affirming, and I’m grateful for every kind word. But the real reward is knowing I gave something from my heart, that I showed up fully and created something meaningful.
