Story & Lesson Highlights with Marion DuBose

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marion DuBose. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Marion, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Working out and playing basketball is bringing me joy! I love to stay in shape and try to eat healthy when I can. Running also clears my mind, since I am training for different marathons.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marion DuBose and I am a Violinist born and raised in Houston, Texas. I started playing the violin back in the 5th grade when my sister started teaching me, then I joined orchestra in middle school. It’s funny because I hated playing the violin and piano at first because I thought it was boring, classical and not fun. But, around freshman year of high school, I went through a building phase where I was always alone and stayed to myself at home and decided learning new things with strings instruments because I felt like that was the only friend in my life.

That’s where the electric violin was born.

I am a one-man show that plays all genres of music and can play by ear. I started and founded DBR Studios, which is a production company that produces performances and songs for all types of events and projects. My story is very simple: I play from the heart and create music for others so everyone can be happy and appreciate life. The goal is to provide a fun, unique experience for others so everyone can have a good time and connect through the universal power and language of song. Now, I want to further my label to expand worldwide and provide content, videos, and performances for all people.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a student of my parents and school trying to make it in the corporate world to be “successful” in the normal society’s eyes. Trying to get straight A’s through high and college and being hired by a Fortune 500 company to fit inside the esteemed hierarchy of the business until retirement.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not having a sustainable job and being alone and homeless. Following music was scary because of the uncertainty of the income and not knowing where my career will go.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
No, not really. I am very nerdy and like to play video games when I can and spend time on my own. Peace is prosperity for me, but my entertainment lifestyle keeps me away from that sometimes.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
They would miss my cover videos of different songs around the world the most. That’s what most people have said they love about my content and performances.
