We’re looking forward to introducing you to Quasar Marshall. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Quasar, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Well then, right into it huh? Um well I do right feel as if I am being called to step into the spotlight, allow myself and my art to be seen even though the thought of being perceived terrifies me a little. I used to act when I was younger and I enjoy the feeling of performing my role well onstage but as I got older I became more comfortable as a wallflower but lately that hasn’t been suiting me. I’ve been slowly but progressively pushing my limits and expanding my capacity to do things that have me on the other side of my comfort.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Quasar and I’m a skateboarder and comedian from Brooklyn, NY. I’m leader of TrapboardingCollective, a creed of Brooklyn skaters looking to empower our local skate scene through community. I’ve also been dabbling into the comedy scene a bit her in nyc so I’m learning the ropes, hopefully you’ll be seeing me in your city at your local comedy club, maybe on your streaming services soon, who knows.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Hmm it was my middle school art teacher, Ms. Bennett & my elementary school teacher Ms. Pittman. Shout out to Mrs. Bennett, she literally unlocked my ability to tap into my creativity, showing me that there are many ways to look at anything not just art. Perspective can really make the impossible possible, mistakes aren’t bad there just a new direction. Ms. Pittman saw the underachiever in me and motivated me to strive for the things I want out of life. She would not accept anything less than my best and that became my baseline because now even I knew what I was capable of.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Dude are you joking? Almost all the time. Sh*t is hard and it’s never going to get easier so feeling like you’re at your lowest, with not many, if anyone at all, to connect with is lonely. What keeps me from giving up is to look at my story from the end. Seeing that I know I’m going to eventually get to all the places and do all of the things, I give myself time to see that whatever I’m experiencing too is also part of that beauty. Taking my time just figuring out the next step, and the next step only, has saved me countless times.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no. I’m all of those things while not being limited to what you see. Im actually a spirit, a ghost in a machine. Depending on what you deem to be REAL.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I guess I would stop second guessing myself. Time is finite and thank heavens I don’t know when my time is but if I had a ball park estimate it would only increase my drive to live more curious and honestly. Otherwise, what’s the point ya know?
