We recently had the chance to connect with Tiffany Bean and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
What is a normal day!?!?!?! Being in real estate pretty much means that every day is full of surprises! So does being a single mom! I have 2 daughters and it’s summer so we are currently trying to balance work and fun and that is a challenge as all I want to do is play with my girls! But it’s also our busy season in the Houston area so I’m swamped!! So most days have me getting up at 5, having a ton of coffee with my dog Sky, then taking her for a walk around the neighborhood. Once we’re back we get breakfast for the girls and then get them set up on an activity or go somewhere they can play while I work on the computer. If I have showings we figure out how to balance their schedule and mine while I show homes, then have consults, then answer the millions of calls, texts and emails I get daily since we are busy and I have so many listings at the moment! From there I pick what has to be dealt with first, prioritize and work my way through all the lists of things to accomplish! Then hopefully hop in the pool and end the day laughing with my girls!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tiffany Bean. I am one of the owner|partners of White Oak Realty Group with Compass. My business partner and I left our previous team we worked for to start our own in 2021 with the goal of slowing down and being able to spend more time with each client and give them the service we would want for ourselves. It’s been a wild ride! I am very grateful to have very devoted clients that refer me over and over leading to lots of business! Plus, Compass is such a wonderful company that really promotes collaboration with other agents and this has led to so many opportunities for me as well and endless learning from agents that have been doing this for 20-40 years all around the country! I absolutely love it! My mom came to visit recently and listened to me on the phone in my office for a few weeks and kept commenting that she has no idea how I do my job, it’s so stressful…and she’s right! It is! But it’s a stressful process regardless who goes through it and I love that I help my clients try to navigate it to be the least stressful as possible. I try and be a resource for them on everything that involves their home and the buying and selling and owning process. My motto as a mom is “be the person you needed when you were a kid.” This is how I think of my business, too. I try to be the realtor I wish I had when I first bought or sold a home and every time since. Just trying to anticipate my clients needs before they do and make sure they always know I’m here and going to help them get over whatever the next hurdle is. There will be hurdles in buying and selling homes, but there is always a solution to be found!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
I think my dad. For most of his life he worked at lumber yards as a manager or sales contractor. He was THE BEST at his job. We moved around a lot growing up because my dad would take a lumber yard (this was before Home Depot and Lowes were a thing!) that was not doing great and turn them into a very profitable business, so he would get job offers at other lumberyards asking him to come help and he would and then move on to the next. He loved what he did and who he worked with. His best friends were always the contractors he worked with. They would meet every day for lunch together…a big group of guys! They would spend the weekends going on motorcycle or car rides or just hanging out…his clients became his friends who he enjoyed being with and making happy. He would do anything for them and vice versa. I watched how my dad took care of everyone and in turn, everyone loved my dad and would do anything for him. It was awesome to see and learn from him how to treat others and your work. I take a great deal of respect in my work ethic. I’ve been called a workaholic for 30+ years but I no longer think I am. I think that I’m a person who likes people and likes to have a good day, every day, and doing a good job for myself and my clients makes me happy and in turn I enjoy my day! I am a big believer in karma and believe that how you treat others is the most important thing you can do. I am here to help – be it in real estate or anything else I have any knowledge on and this just carries me through each day with new surprises along the way!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
GO! FOR! IT!!! I am almost 50 and the only regrets I really have are the risks I didn’t take. Yes, I’ve made mistakes and I regret some of them, but I’m learning to forgive myself and just make better choices every moment. I’ve been very successful in 3 careers and think that the things I didn’t go after, I most likely would have achieved as well. So, I’d say don’t limit yourself! Don’t wait! Life can end at any second or change in a way you never saw coming. Do the fun things, do the risky things, try it all and enjoy every second!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Not at all! I have Realtor Tif and Regular Tif! I like dressing up and looking nice and do for work, but when I’m off I’m in cut off shorts and a tank top or swim suit! I think it’s funny that my neighbors know me as the crazy woman that is always outside playing with my kids and dog and always a mess, but this is probably the last words that someone would use to describe me at work! I also think it’s funny that my neighbors hire me as a realtor never seeing that side of me! lol! I have had this thought that I am supposed to be so professional and buttoned up to be a good realtor, but I am realizing that most people just like the real me! I work crazy hard, I truly care about others and I constantly strategize to think of a solution to problems that come up during the real estate process and I can do that in a $2000 suit or a pair of shorts I’ve owned for 20 years! And generally better when I’m comfortable being me! So, I am letting go of this belief that if I’m not perfect, I’m not good. I know I care about my clients and try my hardest for them, and sometimes that means showing up as the real me and not the cleaned up version I think people want, but the mom that is juggling 500 things because more than likely they are too and really can identify with what I’m going through!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Wow! What a question! If I knew I had 10 years left, I’d probably try to travel to see as many cool places as I can and I’d try to soak up every second with my children. I think that I’m actually doing both of these things already but I think I’d kick it into hyper drive if I knew there were only 10 years left!
