Tanya Guadalupe Hernandez of Katy, TX on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Tanya Guadalupe Hernandez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Tanya Guadalupe , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of my career, my greatest joy is being with my family. I love the simple but meaningful moments—like watching my kids grow up into little people, hearing them cheer each other on, or cooking dinner together at home. Those everyday experiences are what fill me up and remind me of what really matters.

Another thing that’s become really special for me is baking sourdough bread. It started as a little experiment, but it’s turned into a creative outlet where I can slow down, be patient, and literally watch something grow with my hands. It’s therapeutic and grounding—plus, it makes my house smell amazing and my family loves it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tanya Hernandez, and I’m the owner of Luna Hair by Tanya. I specialize in lived in dimensional color and hair extensions. I love creating effortless blondes and balayage looks that grow out beautifully, and extensions allow me to add length, fullness, and confidence for my clients.

What makes my brand unique is the way I customize every look. My goal is always to enhance a client’s natural beauty so they leave with something timeless and personal to them. Luna Hair by Tanya is not just about hair, it is about creating an experience where clients feel seen, heard, and celebrated.

Right now I am focused on expanding my extension services, growing my brand, and connecting more with my community, all while balancing entrepreneurship with being a wife and mom. My story is still unfolding, but what grounds me is knowing I get to do what I love while creating a legacy for my family.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me I have been learning to release is the need to carry everything on my own and prove I can handle it all. For a long time I felt like I had to be strong in every area, at home, in my business, and in life, but I have realized that true strength comes from letting go and letting God.

Releasing that pressure has given me space to grow as a businesswoman, a wife, and a mother. It is teaching me to trust the process, honor my limits, and focus on what truly matters.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could talk to my younger Tanya, I would tell her as I tell my daughter and every young girl in my chair: prioritize God, fill your life with self-love, trust your journey, and remember you can be anything you want if you step up and knock on the doors. You got this, sweet Wonder Woman.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Of course! What you see is what you get. I show up as my true self in everything I do, whether I am creating in my chair, spending time with my family, or sharing my story. I do not put on a mask or try to fit into what others expect. I believe the most meaningful connections come from authenticity, and I strive to live and work with honesty, heart, and purpose. My hope is that anyone who meets me, or follows my journey, feels the real Tanya, someone who loves deeply, works passionately, and embraces life fully.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I don’t just hope—I know to my bone marrow that people will say I lived a life full of love, purpose, and generosity. That I poured into others with my whole heart, inspired those around me, and lifted people up both personally and professionally. I know they will remember me as someone who stayed true to herself, put God first, and made a positive impact on everyone she met. Most of all, I know they will say I loved deeply, served selflessly, and left the world a little brighter than I found it.
