Community Highlights: Meet Mary Persich of Cookieology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Persich.

Hi Mary, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My mom always made everything from scratch, including cookies. One of my favorite memories from growing up is eating her homemade cookies and picking the dough off the beaters. Ever since then, I loved baking as a teen, throughout college, and as a financial analyst after I graduated. I truly enjoy sharing delicious cookies with people and feel like it’s my way of spreading joy in the world.

I used to only bake for fun and share cookies with friends, family, and coworkers until so many people kept telling me they would buy my cookies. My husband (who has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit) encouraged me to start a side hustle baking cookies and thus Cookieology was born in 2018! I started out selling to coworkers and now supply a local boutique real estate firm with cookies for their closings. Even though I work a full-time job and have a family, I’m lucky to be able to spread smiles in Houston through my cookies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest obstacle was getting over my own fear. In the beginning, I was so worried that people wouldn’t order anything or wouldn’t like the cookies. It took a few months and persistence, but eventually, I was able to reach more people through social media and word of mouth. It’s nerve-wracking going out on your own and starting a business, but it’s so rewarding at the same time. I’ve loved meeting new people from Houston and building relationships with them while sharing joy through cookies.

We’ve been impressed with Cookieology, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cookieology is a ghost bakery (bakery without a storefront) specializing in cookies! We use organic and natural ingredients to make amazing cookies to satisfy all cravings. Some of the most popular flavors are S’mores, Pumpkin Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Chip, and Snickerdoodle. We can do as few as a dozen cookies and have also done a wedding with over 300 cookies. Our mission is to spread joy through the deliciousness of our cookies.
