Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Santoyo and Jessica Garcia.
Hi Vanessa Santoyo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our names are Jessica and Vanessa, we met three years ago in church and immediately became friends after serving and working together with the youth of our congregation. We are opposites in many areas, and that is why our partnership works. Vanessa has great talents in customer service and marketing, while I enjoy working behind the scenes. We each have different abilities, but we both share the same passion for the art of baking, entrepreneurship and the need for an artistic outlet. Although years of experience have allowed us to obtain skills to be successful alone, together we form the perfect component to make beautiful and unique creations that stand out from the rest.
Last year came with many challenges but it also opened up new opportunities. We can honestly say trials brought us together in the journey to form this endeavor. We saw a need in our community after many bakeries closed due to the pandemic and discovered people still had the desire to celebrate with their loved ones. In November 2020 after a leap of faith, Glimmer Cakes was born!
Although we are still a new partnership, we have been blessed with people that like what we do and support our work. We take pride in our products, recipes and presentation. Everything from DIY-Cookie kits to large custom orders are made with the most attention to detail. We want to make sure every bite is “a sparkle of sweetness” and a memorable experience for our customers.
We always put our hearts and souls to bring joy and provide the best products for our clients from the heart of our kitchens. We want to continue growing and serving Sugar Land and the surrounding areas.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We call ourselves MOM-Preneurs! The biggest challenge so far has been finding balance between work, school, taking care of our families, managing a new business and learning how to work together. Jessica has a full-time job and I’m a Health-Care Administration part-time student.
It has been a humbling and learning experience managing our schedules in order to dedicate time to our business, spend quality time with our families and attend personal matters.
We’ve been impressed with Glimmer Cakes, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our main focus at Glimmer Cakes is to exceed expectations, not only on the presentation of our products but also in taste. We want a cake to look amazing but taste great too! We truly enjoy bringing concepts to life and focusing on the small details.
Coming from a Latin background, it is important for us to incorporate our culture into Glimmer Cakes’ recipes and designs but Houston is our home. We love our city and are lucky to share the best of both worlds. Whether it’s a small treat box or a large wedding cake, we put every effort to make our creations unique and delicious.
What does success mean to you?
Seeing our customers’ faces light up when they see their orders and knowing they enjoy our creations is one of the most rewarding feelings! However, having returning clients and getting referrals is how we define success. In our eyes, it means we are doing something right and are on the path to achieve our vision and goals. We are very grateful for all the love and support received and look forward to a bright future.
