Meet Antwano of North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antwano.

Antwano, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well growing up, music was always my go-to, my #1. It was my space to get away from the realities of the world. When things got tough I’d just keep my headphones in and just let the music take me. I always knew I wanted to do something in music, I started off by writing poems when I was around 12 or 13 years old. Then at 14, I started off by making covers and rapping over other people’s songs to get the feel for it and get comfortable with it until I started writing verses and making my own original music. And ever since than I’ve just been working hard and grinding everyday, consistently working on new music and getting my music out there for the world to hear. There’s still a long way to go but I believe there’s a bright light at the end of the journey.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Wow, it’s been anything but a smooth road. There’s been many bumps and obstacles that have come my way to try to knock me down, but I’d have to say that my self-criticism is probably my biggest obstacle because I’m such a perfectionist I feel that nothing is good enough to finish working on, it’s been a process but with the people around me and all the support, I just let the music speak for itself and not overthink everything and just simply, make music.

Please tell us about Antwano.
I am a hip-hop artist, a musician, a creator. And what I feel most proud about it is my authenticity. I feel that’s a big thing that sets me apart from others doing what I do at the level that I’m at. Whenever I hear someone say they are a fan of my music and that it motivates them to do whatever it is that they wanna do, that’s a big blessing to me. It’s really things like that that keeps me doing what I do, the love for it, the opportunities that come with it, such as this!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s one to really think about! There’s too many to count. So many crazy things has happened so far in my life I feel I could write a novel about it! But the one memory that will always stand out from the rest is back in 4th grade in a choir performance I was in. I had a lead role in one of the songs, I’ll never forget coming in on my bike and almost falling over! Now that I look back at it, it was a bit corny, but that was the moment where I knew music would take over my life. Performing in front of that crowd gave me the biggest rush I ever felt, and I will continue to feel that for as long as I can.
