Meet Chi Ilochi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chi Ilochi.

Chi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hmmm, where exactly do I begin? For as long as I can remember, I’ve been creative and artistic. Whether I was painting, styling, designing, singing, songwriting, or journalism. That was my identity, truly. But that identity became a reality when I moved to the West Side of Houston in August of 2017. During that time, Hurricane Harvey made its presence known. Water damage, minimal electricity, and hope being stripped day by day. I don’t believe frightened does what I felt at the time enough justice, and have struggled with my mental health at the time didn’t make the situation any better. Ironically, I found pieces of myself in confusion and chaos. But most importantly, I found a journal that brought all my fears, tears, dreams and desires to life. I then began to network with other creatives via social media’s, and I got more in tune with my creative side. It freed me. It taught me, but most importantly it molded me into who I am today. I can honestly say these struggles have made me become a bold and fearless creative.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! Is it ever?! But I still thank God for the good and the bad, because his will has always and will continue to work out in my best interest. In late 2017, I lost my first friend Anthony to suicide. In early 2018, I lost my friend, Tre to suicide. In mid-May of 2018, I lost another friend Sean to suicide. I have struggled with my mental health personally, self-doubt, and simply not even feeling motivated. I’ve wanted to give up so many times and simply just disappear because sometimes life gets that hard. But in hindsight, I’m thankful everything happened. Of course, I’m not thankful I lost friends, I’ll never be, but I am thankful these situations have shaped me and helped me become a stronger woman, creative, individual, and inspiration for myself and others.

Please tell us about StylingByChi.
I am a stylist, and fashion designer, my companies are StylingByChi and DesignsByChi! I’m known for styling myself and others and bringing their beauty and confidence to live. In regards to designs, so far, I’ve only designed pieces for myself but I definitely want to branch out, and design for others. It’s definitely a process. In terms of pride, I’m definitely proud of how consistent, hardworking, inspiring and motivated I am. I can say that definitely correlates to what sets me aside from other companies. I work very hard, and I try my best to stay as consistent as I can while supporting and promoting other companies. We can’t do it all alone, we all need help in some light. I’m a firm believer that resonates with the hearts of others and attracts them more to myself as a person and my companies.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
For my success, I believe kindness is very very important. It’s nice to be important, but it’s important to be nice. I’m a firm believer that what you put out you ultimately get back. Although I’m currently working on finding the balance between being kind and getting taken advantage of, I know that in business, how you make people feel, and the favors you give come back tenfold. In a lot of ways, kindness can make or break you or give you a favor. And for me, it’s given me favor time and time again. So, I believe it is very important to my success.
