Today we’d like to introduce you to Durratussharaf Mufaddal.
Hi Durratussharaf, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Durratussharaf aka girl with a very long name.
Born and raised in India in a business family, entrepreneurship was instilled in me from a young age and that led me to be a business owner at the age of 21. Since then, I got a degree in business management, got married, had a kid, started this business and moved 6 times across 3 countries in just the last decade before making Katy our home.
Despite all the transitions and relocating, I have held onto my love for crafts, culture, language and entrepreneurship.
And so Dstampss, a crafting Co was born in 2017 in the USA to meet the ever-growing demand for Islamic products in the creative world. My vision is to make Eid and all Islamic festivals a mainstream celebration here in the North Americas.
Being an e-commerce business has allowed me live anywhere in the world as long there is good wifi.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The roads are never smooth,
The path is never paved,
You have to take detours along the way,
The obstacles you’ve faced,
The roadblocks you’ve maneuvered,
It will all make sense one day.
My biggest challenge has been that we’ve moved every 2 years, uprooting from one city and sometimes even country to temporarily set up base in a new one.
What I have realized in the process is that no matter how many detours we take and the landscapes around me change, my business principles and values shouldn’t. I started treating my movements as a way to explore new opportunities, meet new people, find new inspirations make new connections.
This new and evolved mindset helped me maneuver better, adapt faster.
The realization that everything is temporary and we might move soon again, helped me appreciate and live in the present, it also made me open to pivoting my business strategies to match the need of the evolving market.
So in fact, my biggest challenge has only helped me realize my tenacity and that geography will not restrict me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
For me, crafting is a way of connecting, breaking barriers and spreading joy.
We are one of a kind Islamic arts and crafting supplies manufacturer based in the USA.
Immigrating from different countries, celebrations of festivals have always played an important role in promoting the cultural heritage of communities.
Our goal is to help families be creatively engaged and celebrate their festivals with products that reflect their faith, language and culture.
Our products are a reflection of our identities and beliefs.
And who doesn’t like representation, right?
My WHY was actually Why Not..
Why not have crafting products that reflect us?
Why not have an entire range of stamps and stationery that use Islamic vocabulary?
Why not make Islamic festivals a mainstream celebration?
Why not take Eid celebrations to the world?
So I said..why not make it….why not share it.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Sometimes the biggest risk is betting on yourself against all odds.
Introducing a new idea into the market for a very specific niche presents high risks, since you have narrow insights on the community’s buying preferences.
Being an entrepreneur means you are in for the long haul. You keep taking risks, trusting your gut, listening to your customers, overcoming obstacles (personal & professional) and in the process you hurt, you recover and you repeat.
