Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Jones.
Richard, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in the Swansea Valleys of South Wales in the UK, I was first introduced into the home improvement industry working with my father and my brother on building sites and carrying out home remodeling projects. I always remember my father’s constant reminder that “good things are seldom cheap and cheap things are seldom good.” At the age of 17, I joined the British army as an airborne infantry soldier (paratrooper) before serving with the SAS. After leaving the British army I once again worked with my brother and father in the family business of manufacturing vinyl windows which have been very popular in Europe since the early 80s.
In 2007 I moved to the US where I continued my remodeling education working with different construction and remodeling companies throughout Houston. While every company I worked with provided multiple opportunities to grow professionally, I quickly realized that Houston market is in need of a remodeling company that offers only high-quality products, professional installation, and outstanding customer service.
In 2015, my business partner and wife Doini Jones and I created Everest Siding and Windows with the purpose of offering Houstonians the best package of price, warranties, service options, and quality in roofing, siding, and windows replacement services while creating a unique, enjoyable experience from start to finish. We created a culture where everyone, from the teenagers putting out door hangers to the crew leaders, understand that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. As a small business, the Everest team stays highly focused on quality control, efficiency and maintaining a personal relationship with each client and works diligently to maintain the values of a true family business while offering the conveniences of a big company.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“Smooth” is definitely not a word that we have ever used to describe our Everest journey.
As with all companies, we have had our challenges, but without question hurricane Harvey was the biggest to overcome. So many people were affected and balancing our employees’ need to attend to their families and homes, while being able to assist our customers was extremely difficult.
Other challenges we faced:
Finding crews that have the expertise we require in order to offer the high quality of work we are known for and caring for the customers’ homes as much as we do was one of the hardest.
We are hands-on business owners, so balancing current workload with planning and growing the company is an ongoing challenge.
