Meet Jim Gray of Grayhouse Events Atelier in Tanglewood and Memorial Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Gray.

Jim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career in hotels in 1990 in Dallas with a Front Office Management background and eventually made my way to Houston where I discovered a passion for the planning and servicing of weddings and social events as I changed my focus to the catering side of the business. After years of clients, colleagues and friends urging me to go out on my own so that my talent and passion could be expanded, in March of 2017, I started Grayhouse Events Atelier. It’s been the single best decision I’ve made and I haven’t looked back since. When these same clients, colleagues and friends tell me, “I told you so”, I explain to them that the timing was perfect. I simply wouldn’t have had the same level of appreciation for Grayhouse Events if I hadn’t waited for the perfect time. The beauty of this entire experience is the support of former clients I’ve worked with over the years and their confidence in me to bless me with their referrals. I’m also lucky to have the support of a foundation of amazing service providers/vendors that I’ve fostered relations with for years. Having a collaboration of teams built from professionals I can trust and rely on is what helps make Grayhouse Events shine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road since opening Grayhouse Events has been smooth, yet challenging as I fine tune methods and practices I’ve learned over the years and it’s a great sense of accomplishment to apply the experience I’ve gained into the weddings and events I plan. The start of Grayhouse Events came as the result of a job change decision I had made that turned out to be the turning point in my career. I’ve always used the saying, “The writing is on the wall”. There came a point where I finally read the writing on the wall and couldn’t ignore the message. Within 3 months, Grayhouse Events Atelier was born. I’m excited to celebrate 1 year this March, 2018.

Grayhouse Events Atelier – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What I’m most proud of with Grayhouse Events is the level of service and attention we offer our clients. We practice integrity in everything we do and every decision we make. It’s critical that the clients best interest drive everything from vendor professionals we suggest to all of the details pertaining to making their special event represent them and that we don’t force our ideals into a clients vision, but yet offer suggestions and advice on how to apply them in the best possible way. We specialize in weddings and any kind of social event from birthday parties to company holiday parties, elaborate to tastefully simple.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have to say every time I’ve sent a bride down the aisle to the love of her life is when most proud. The satisfaction I get from that is hard to describe. All the months of work and obsessing over the details and actually coming to fruition is what it’s all about for me. Those are the moments I’m most proud.
