Meet Kourtney Hawkins of Kour Management in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kourtney Hawkins.

Kourtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So sure, that I knew the path I wanted to take, I started college and majored in Architectural Engineering and International Business.  Shortly into my junior year, I experienced some health roadblocks that would ultimately create a detour for me completing those degrees. While I had always dealt with migraines the attacks went from occasional and bearable to constant and incapacitating factors.  As I continued to suffer from debilitating migraines and after many trips back home to the neurologist finally a diagnosis-an aneurysm on the encephalon (central nervous system).  While I finally had an answer, the university was not very accommodating or understanding of my condition, so I was dismissed from school due to poor attendance and grades and had to return home for further treatments.  What an eye-opening experience to be the youngest patient by 60 plus years sitting in my doctor’s waiting room.

After time, my migraines were under control and the aneurysm kept getting smaller and smaller. I found employment as an office administrator for a local church and was tasked with the assignment of re-branding their logo and creating professional flyers. With absolutely no erudition in this area, I accepted the challenged that was given me. Thankfully, I met a fabulous mentor named Christina H., who graciously pledged to show me how to commence designing, albeit I did not even own the appropriate software at the time; but I was determined to get the job done with excellence.

After time and practice, I was working with start-ups, individual requests, and a celebrity chef.

Has it been a smooth road?
Outside of the migraines in my early twenties, and several other issues, to verbally express that the road I’ve galivanted so far has been rough would be an understatement. However, if I had never encountered this experience, as rough as it may have been, I wouldn’t be able to look back and discern how far I’ve come.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for.  You must have a vigorous belief system and mine is in God. I believe that with HIM, all things are possible, and I can do anything I set my mind to if my faith is in him. I honestly believe the rough roads and obstacles prepare you and increase your tenacity.  Can you persevere even when you don’t want to or when it looks so dim that just maybe you won’t make it through?  That’s the true grit of a business owner/entrepreneur. Nothing is handed to you; you must work and work strenuously!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kour Management story. Tell us more about the business.
Kour Management is a creative agency that helps build your brand by developing bold strategies and creative solutions. A creative agency solves most inquiries in a creative manner. At Kour Management, our mission is to help individuals, start-ups, and established businesses reach maximum potential through innovative solutions, digital advertising, strategic branding, web design and more to support and sustain long-term success for our clients.  Whether it’s re-creating a new brand identity or conceptualizing a brand-new ad campaign, we will help you build a brand that stands above the rest!

We focus on building a creative agency where price, product quality and customer experience are important attributes to who we are. With you at our Kour, we will help you connect with your audience and create relevant design.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My vision as the founder is to partner with colleges/universities and allow students to intern at Kour Management. Once their internship is complete, we would offer an opportunity to apply to work at the company to give them real-world experience once they graduate.

We are also looking for Kour Management to be in various states so we can assist in giving more people the opportunity to express their creativity.  We want to hire people who need the push and the chance to make a difference through design.
