Meet Rosemary Meeks of Wheels and Heels HTX in North Houston and Aldine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosemary Meeks.

Rosemary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Wheels and Heels HTX is an all-female car, truck and bike club. Originally I was a female representative for another truck club in Texas. I decided I wanted to go in a different direction with the events we were doing and a few of the female members as well as a few friends from outside the club agreed and pushed me to move forward. At the end of February 2019, I formed Wheels and Heels HTX with only three additional members. With a lot of hard work and dedication from everyone involved, we host charity meets and shows. Members choose a local charity and rotate on the seniority of membership from there on selection. We have currently grown to 10 members and a junior prospect.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been an easy task to be women in the auto world even though some people may have you think otherwise because more and more women are showing interest in all aspects of the auto industry. Our very first show was scheduled for June 2019, but due to the threat of an approaching storm and taking into consideration the safety of our participants and spectators, we decided to reschedule the event for August. August being the hottest part of our summer, did not bode well for us. Our event was hosted in the parking lot of a local company, which means we were already surrounded by concrete and then, we ended up in a heat advisory. We had an extremely low turn out, with even fewer spectators. However, the charity we chose, League City Animal Shelter, was grateful for all the donations received.

Please tell us about Wheels and Heels HTX.
We are definitely known for hosting nothing except charity events. When anyone comes out to attend, they can expect anything they donate to go directly to a local charity. We are proud to be very transparent and always share the process of us getting the donations to the charity via social media. We want everyone to know that what we do is nonprofit for us. That in itself sets us apart as most meets you attend are free because it’s a group of people just getting together and money contributed to shows are primarily used to pay for the show itself or an individual actually making a profit.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
For me personally, I have had tons of support from family and friends, but I definitely have to mention a few of my biggest supporters by name. My VP Rosie Mendoza, Club Photographer Hope Hruska and member Danielle Cannon who are my original team from the start. I’d also like to recognize Trucks and Coffee who have supported us through the transition into Wheels and Heels HTX. Also, the rest of my crew: Sargent at Arms April Lybyer and members Norma Stiles, Marie Ramirez, Yvette Garcia-Leal, Whitney Chaney and Sayra Lara. We’ve also had a couple of members who have come and gone that still support us and we value as if they were still members: Lupita Maze and Liz Contreras. A very special recognition to our Junior Prospect Zoe Flikkema, who is a young teen dedicated to our cause. Of course, I can’t leave out local businesses that have allowed us to host free of charge: Rock ‘n’ Rod Roofing and Restoration, Crazy Alan’s Swamp Shack-Kemah, Hartz Chicken-Pinemont and Tikila’s in the Heights.
