Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosy Espinoza.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m from Chihuahua, Mexico and I had always been interested in photography. I love nature and landscape photography, so I’ve constantly liked taking photos of sunsets, flowers and capturing special moments to create lifetime memories.
In 2014, I had the opportunity to travel to Argentina. I spent three years living there, in the beautiful city of Neuquén. There I studied my MBA and had the chance to do something that I always wanted to do, taking photography lessons. I joined a local photography school named EFID, where with every class that I took, I became more interested about this beautiful art.
At that moment, I was just focused on improving my travel photos and I didn’t realize that I could do this for a career. Once I completed my postgraduate degree studies, I gained more interest in marketing and the huge impact that photography can do for the success of a business and specially for startups.
It was until I arrived here to Houston, three years ago, that I started to look for a way that I could apply my studies and what better way that it could be by following my passion for photography. So far, I have had the pleasure to meet some amazing entrepreneurs who were looking for a way to showcase their products and the work they do.
At the same time, I have had the honor to capture some special moments, including the arrival of a new family member, marriage proposals and special celebrations. I feel privileged to be able to freeze on time those unrepeatable instants through my camera lens.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, not at all! I consider that starting your own business is really challenging. I’m passionate about what I do, and because of that, I’m always looking to learn more about how to improve my photography technique, that includes taking in person or online courses, expending several hours practicing, watching tutorials and in some cases acquiring new equipment, software and accessories. That means that sometimes an important part of my income is invested back to my business. However, all of this becomes very rewarding when I receive a thank you message from a customer after reviewing their photo gallery that I develop for them, or even more when I see some of my pictures displayed on one of their house walls.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rosy Espinoza Photography – what should we know?
Currently, I offer two main types of photography services, depending on the segment to which they are addressed. One is brand and commercial photography, directed to business and entrepreneurs who are looking to upgrade their product photography and want to improve their brand personal image. Part of my involvement is to help them to present their merchandise in an attractive manner, to be displayed in their websites, social media or any kind of advertising. My objective is to increase the brand visibility and provide to the client an idea on how they can integrate those products into their daily life. Also, and in order to promote that the clients feel identified with the brand, I encourage the entrepreneurs to do a lifestyle branding photoshoot, where I will focus on showing the person that is behind of all the hard work that the final product requires. To do so, I collaborate with my clients to develop images that work accordingly with their marketing strategies and in return, allows them to connect with their audience and permits them to expand their brand.
The other photography service that I provide is family and lifestyle sessions which focus on create lovely memories from special life events, such as the arrival of a new member of the family, a memorable birthday party or any other occasion that deserves to be remembered. In the case of newborn sessions, the first weeks after the birth results is the best time to do it, but I know that in most cases, it could be difficult for parents, especially when they are overwhelmed with all the new responsibilities. For that reason, I bring all my equipment to the comfort of my client’s home, including different props and accessories to capture those first moments of the baby and create beautiful lifetime memories.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I consider that it is important to keep learning to provide a better service. Additionally, I’m always listening to my customer needs and focus on creating a good relationship with them, because good recommendations have been essential to allow me to grow and expand my business.
