Meet Skyler Tran of SellinginSneakers in East Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Tran.

Skyler, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Initially, I started real estate back in 2006 then the Great Recession hit. I then went on to work in the oil and energy field for seven years or so. Ironically, this time around the layoffs were going around in the oil and energy sector due to the falling oil prices. My aunt who is a successful investor in the Bay Area suggested I reconsider real estate as a career. Afterwards, I began the journey back into real estate arena and never looked back. I’ve had some great mentors along the way which have helped me get to this junction in real estate. It has been five years now and I regret not doing this sooner.

Has it been a smooth road?
My first year in real estate was a learning curve. With no income coming in and learning on the job with certain nuances to deals. I was definitely stressed out with high amounts of anxiety in that moment. I remember questioning my decision at that time to go back to corporate America. Another challenge was the market slowing down as the correlation between oil prices and market prices in Houston seem to go hand in hand.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work in a field where people literally know multiple realtors. My brand focuses on exemplary customer service but also identifying the needs of what my clients want in a home. To this day, out of the hundreds to thousands of people I’ve helped, I’m extremely proud of the relationships I’ve fostered with my past clients/friends. A big thing which sets me apart from others is the way I dress to showings or closings. I’m a big sneaker fanatic so very casual and trendy with the latest in demand sneakers. Not only that, the compliment my clients usually give me the most is the level of care when helping them through the biggest purchase of their life.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is an amazing city due to its diversity which is directly correlated to the food scene here. I wholeheartedly believe the growth this city has seen over the past decade not only in population but different areas of business as medical and even tech in the near future makes Houston an ideal landing spot for anyone.
