Meet Trailblazer Michele Tays-Hopkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Tays-Hopkins.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michele. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey of being an artisan began with my mama (Norma) in 1998. I was so intrigued about how she would use wire to design. So, she taught me how to design and I created my first set using semi-precious stones.

I took a break for a few years, then, in 2011, I started designing again. One of my co-workers told me I should start selling them. And being the holidays, I could make extra money. That’s where it all began, in 2013, Chele’s Trendi Designs was created a.k.a. CTDesigns.

I now have a studio in my home, located in Pearland TX where I spend most of my spare time since I work a full-time job. My husband, Daryall is such a great supporter of mine. He helped me with getting my first desk to design and to place my beads on for easy access. My studio has now grown and I will now have to move to the front room for more space. Which I’m so excited for. I have now accumulated storage for all my semi-precious stones and findings.

This is my passion and where I can enjoy the gift that God has given me. I’m hopeful that I can have my designs sold in boutiques, and my goal is to have my own small boutique store.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, it becomes financially hard to get your inventory started. But with patience and faith God provided. Also, the biggest challenges were choosing quality beads and findings, etc. However, with tons of research and reading, I’m at a point where I have made personal connections with other designers and suppliers that have given me knowledge.

Therefore, the advice I give young women who are just starting their journey, always have a plan, keep your faith and don’t ever lose hope or let others keep you from your dreams.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Chele’s Trendi Designs (CTDesigns) – what should we know?
I create Trendi Designs for all people using semi-precious stones from all over the world and I can also customize to my clients taste and vision.

I’m known for uniqueness on creating. When customizing, I always ask questions on the likes and inspiration from my clients. This makes the design more personal for them. And makes it special that in hopes my client will recommend my designs to others.

I believe what sets me apart from others is the quality of beads I use and findings I add to my designs, I worked very hard to find the best, honest and trustworthy suppliers.

My favorite resources is from Flourish & Thrive Academy. They have podcasts and IG on helping independent jewelry brands at every stage launch, grow their business.
