Honoring the Queens of Soul: Brenda Guy Brings Power, Passion, and Legacy to the Stage with Soul Divas Tribute

With Soul Divas Tribute, Brenda Guy delivers more than a performance — she creates an immersive, concert-style celebration of the timeless music and cultural impact of Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight. Blending powerhouse vocals, dynamic choreography, striking costumes, and high-energy staging, the production honors each icon’s unique legacy while weaving them into a single, unforgettable experience. As both producer and performer, Brenda balances deep respect for these legendary voices with her own authenticity, leadership, and artistry — creating a show that resonates across generations. Her vision is clear: to uplift, inspire, and remind audiences of soul music’s enduring power to heal, connect, and celebrate our shared humanity.

Hi Brenda, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and this exciting new chapter with our readers. Your new live production, Soul Divas Tribute, celebrates the music and legacy of icons like Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight in one high-energy show. What inspired you to create a “three-in-one” tribute and take on honoring these legendary voices in a single production?
The inspiration came from a deep respect for the impact Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight have had not only on music, but on culture, strength, and storytelling. Each of these women represents a different expression of soul, resilience, and excellence. I wanted to create a production that honored their individual legacies while showing how their voices collectively shaped generations of music lovers. Bringing them together in one immersive experience allows audiences to celebrate the full spectrum of soul in a powerful, meaningful way.

You’re not just singing the songs — you’re building a full concert-style experience with dancers, DJs, costumes, and dynamic staging. How did you approach designing the show so it feels immersive and unforgettable for audiences of all ages?
From the beginning, I approached Soul Divas Tribute as a full production rather than a standard tribute performance. Every element—costuming, choreography, live vocals, dancers, and musical arrangements—was intentionally designed to pull the audience into the experience. The goal was to make people feel like they were witnessing moments in music history while still keeping the energy fresh and exciting. By blending nostalgia with dynamic staging, storytelling, and a little bit of my own personality the show resonates with longtime fans while still captivating younger audiences.

Each of these artists carries a distinct style, personality, and emotional depth. How do you balance staying true to their legacies while still bringing your own voice and artistry to the stage?
Respect for their legacies is always the foundation. I study their performances, their phrasing, their presence, and the emotion behind the music to ensure authenticity. At the same time, I believe the tribute becomes most powerful when it’s delivered with sincerity rather than imitation. I bring my own voice, life experience, and emotional connection to the music, allowing the performance to feel genuine and alive. The balance comes from honoring who they were while expressing why their music still matters today. While I am honoring them; it’s still important to be true to myself.

Producing and starring in your own one-woman show takes vision, leadership, and serious hustle. What have you learned about yourself as both a performer and producer while bringing Soul Divas Tribute to life with your team?
No matter how many times I’ve taken the stage—whether as Soul Divas TributeBrenda Guy The One Woman Show or with Brenda & The Guys Party Band—I’ve learned that a few nerves always show up at the beginning (laughing). It seems they never completely go away (unbelievable…smiles). At the same time, this production has shown me the true importance of leadership, vision, and trust. As a performer, Soul Divas Tribute challenged me to step fully into three iconic roles with confidence and discipline. As a producer, it reinforced just how vital collaboration is—working closely with dancers, musicians, vocalists, the DJ, and sound and lighting teams to bring a shared vision to life. Having the right team—people who genuinely care about the production and one another—makes all the difference. Ultimately, it reaffirmed my belief that when everyone is aligned with purpose and passion, the result is something truly special.

As the show gains momentum and positive reviews, what’s your dream for where this production can go next — bigger venues, touring, or even new tributes — and what do you hope audiences walk away feeling after the final song?
As Soul Divas Tribute continues to gain momentum and receive such positive feedback, my vision is to see the production grow into larger venues, expanded touring, and festival stages where these stories and songs can reach even wider audiences. I would love to continue developing the show’s production elements and, in time, explore additional tributes that celebrate other legendary voices who have shaped soul and R&B music. At its heart, this project is about honoring legacy, and there is so much rich history still waiting to be shared.

Above all, my hope is that audiences leave feeling inspired, uplifted, and deeply connected to the spirit and strength of these extraordinary women. I want them to walk away not only entertained, but reminded of the power of soul music—its ability to heal, empower, embrace, and bring people together across generations. I truly believe music is therapy and nourishment for the soul.

The overwhelming positive feedback I’ve received from past performances has reaffirmed that belief, and it is my sincere hope that audiences continue to leave singing, smiling, and carrying a renewed appreciation for the artistry, resilience, and lasting impact of these iconic voices.

This production is not only my tribute to these iconic Divas, but also an opportunity to bring people together for one unforgettable night of music—reminding us that, despite our differences, we share common ground rooted in love, respect, music, and our shared humanity. When audiences leave inspired, uplifted, and moved by the experience, the mission of Soul Divas Tribute has truly been fulfilled
