Meet Justin P. Slaughter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin P. Slaughter.

Hi Justin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Acting has been something I’ve always enjoyed doing. Long before I knew the business side of it; long before I really knew what it took to become a Professional Actor. I was born in Port Arthur, TX but moved back and forth to Beaumont, TX. I’ve taken a Theatre Arts class throughout most of my grade school years. The 409 area was actually all I knew until after graduation from Memorial High School. One of my child hood friends moved to Santa Clara, California and invited me to take a trip there to show me something very important, that would change my life. He knew I wanted to be an Actor; he also knew I wanted to be a musician (Singer, Songwriter). The trip did change my life. What I was shown, what I became exposed to was diversity, opportunities and possibilities. The 409 area was all I knew, my mind was very much gated and I never knew life outside of my city until then. My mind became expanded from the diversities, opportunities and possibilities. I was shown what I could be and what I need to do to become that.

However, over the year’s things took a turn and I went on to working at the refineries doing striping and waxing floors, fire guard and insulator. Though my sight was still tunneled in on my vision. Eventually I left the refinery and went on to being a Personal Trainer and created my business “JSlaughterFITNESS”. I’ve also went on to competing in the sport of Bodybuilding in the Men’s Physique division. As you can see I’ve became many things but my sight, my vision never left. It was August 2017 that gave me the golden opportunity to get back to implementing my plans to bringing my vision to life. It took the devastation of Hurricane Harvey to make it happen. A Casting Director that I knew, Jamie Lynn Catrett offered me a job that I couldn’t pass up. She knew how bad things were in TX. She donating toiletries and got me a job working on Godzilla: King of The Monster. Started as a background actor and got bumped up to being a Stand-In for Kenneth Israel in the film. For the duration of me working, I’ve performed a skill set that I’ve used as a personal trainer and refinery worker which was called “Networking”. Meeting and having a good conversation with Kyle Chandler was priceless. He gave a lot of solid advice to me that was worth more than gold. I’ve carried these advices over the years that helped me go from background roles to getting auditions for Principal Roles. I’ve landed Principal Roles for Music Video’s, “Nobody But Jesus” by Jarrod Phillips just to name. I’ve been in a few commercials as well, “This Is The Pepsi: Cravings”, “DuGood Credit Union” just to name a couple. My first Feature Film I’ve landed a Principal Role in was “90 Feet From Home” starring Adam Hampton, Eric Roberts, Shawn Michaels and Dean Cain. The movie gave me great credibility which was great for marketing and also led me to being verified on Google. Also interviewed on KBMT 12NewsNow to talk about the movie and where to purchase tickets.

The movie can be watched on Tubi, Amazon Prime, YouTube or can be purchased on DVD at Walmart. Ever since then, my acting career has truly taken off and now I’m also represented by a Sag-Aftra franchised agency; PureFlare Talent Agency. Being an actor is hard work in a sense but then again, is it really work if you’re doing what you love?. I’m in acting class every week to perfect my craft at Next Level Acting Studios by Deke Anderson, I’m receiving auditions from my agent a lot, keeping my Headshots updated periodically and also being pro efficient in many skills that helps with my acting career.. I’m currently working on a Horror Film called “The Clearing” directed by Ethan Scroggs starring Brittany Mendoza, Zach Martin, Jonathan Tippett and myself. I play Darrin Cross and the synopsis is “Elizabeth Cross receives a mysterious email about her husband’s abduction. She is led into a dark forest and is forced to hunt another human in order to save her loving husband’s life. It boils down to either kill or be killed.” After this film I’ll also be working on a Drama Series that my friend Cleveland Linton is the writer of called “Angry”. The script is phenomenal and y’all will definitely be stunned! I am truly blessed with how far I’ve came and I owe it all to God. He leads and I follow. I know that if it’s in his will, I will go even further in this career of mine. I am having my fingers crossed that I get to have a role in Black Panther 2. I don’t know, maybe play the son of Killmonger perhaps. I have started a marketing campaign about it with a nice concept artwork by Vincent Reyta. So we shall see!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest struggle was my mind. I’ve had to become very strong will/strong-minded; truly determined in what I want. Tunnel Vision. Reason being is because had I not, it would’ve been nothing for someone to simply say “I don’t think you can do it man”, “I don’t know man, it seems a bit impossible”, “Are you sure you want to be “an actor”? That doesn’t seem realistic” and I would’ve fell victim to people making me self-sabotage my own dreams from becoming a reality. I always keep God as my center and my light. I focus on him solely to see me through on my journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have to choose Other only because I can’t select all three. Business, Professional, Artist/Creative. I’m an American Actor known from the film “90 Feet From Home”. Though, I’m not just an actor but I’m also a Certified Personal Trainer and owner of “JSlaughterFITNESS”. I transform people and their lifestyle to a healthy one. I’m also a prep coach for Bodybuilders. I construct their Meal Plans, Workout Regimens while also offering 1 on 1 Personal Training or Group Training. I’m proud of being a part of someone life and being the reason that they’re living their healthiest life. Now, what sets me a part from other Actors is some actors hire a coach/trainer or nutritionist to prep them for a movie. I don’t need to hire a coach/trainer or nutritionist to prep me for a role in a movie because I’m also a coach/trainer and nutritionist. I’ve done my own prep for “90 Feet From Home” to get up to a solid 200lbs physique and I’m doing my own prep now for “The Clearing”.

How do you define success?
I define success as doing what you love for a living and not struggling to try to make ends meet.
