Meet Dose Khan of 9 Innovations in Galleria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dose Khan.

Dose, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been into fitness. As a kid, Sylvester Stallone as rocky has always been an inspiration of mine. Growing up, my older brother suffered numerous ACL injuries as did I. I chose to not get my back fixed after the second tear and rehabbed it to the best we could and to this day, 10 years later, I don’t have one and am in the best shape of my life. So, playing sports and being in the weight room and training room was what I knew. I wanted to learn everything I could do not let these things happen anymore to my best ability. As I researched, Steve Hess and Gunner Peterson were people that I looked up to in my field of training. I went to the University of Wyoming where I interned with the football team and where I gained the respect with the athletes and slowly started building clientele. Owe a big appreciation to Robert Herron, a wide receiver at the time, who first believed in me. I lived in the weight room athletic room and was taking full-time classes.

In the summer of 2013, I got accepted to a performance internship with athletes performance now called exos in California. While there, I got to work with Derrick rose, US men’s national soccer team and plentiful of NFL athletes. Brent Callaway and Chang Lee were my mentors and I owe them a great appreciation for the knowledge that I learned. From there, I graduated from the University of Wyoming and went out to la again for an internship to work the NFL combine. While there, I worked with Bradley Roby corner for the Ohio State University now a first-round draft pick 5th year Denver Bronco. Roby was another guy who helped me with my career and believed in me and still trains him to this day, I owe him a hand in the success of my career. Being in LA connected me with Arian Foster and brought me along to start a gym in Houston called 9 Innovations in 2014.

The start of something special with half of the Houston Texans roster including; Andre Johnson future hall of fame, Arian Foster, Owen Daniels Super Bowl champion and 3-time pro bowler Glover Quin. From then to now, we have slowly built the gym and brand and now working with some of Houston Rockets; James Harden & Clint Capella. I want to give thanks to all the people and family for the helping hand in making my dreams come true as well as Gunner Peterson (Los Angeles Lakers head trainer) and Cory Gregory (owner of Max effort muscle) for the mentorship and paving the way for guys like myself.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. School was very difficult for me I had to do 3x as much work as others just to get B or Cs. Kinesiology major wasn’t easy, however, the work ethic transpired into what is my lifestyle. Running a business especially a startup wasn’t easy and still isn’t easy at all. I have learned a lot over the past 4 years that have made me stronger smarter and more inspired than ever. I’m starting to come into my own and firmly believe what’s meant for you in this world really is and nothing can stop you from your destiny.

9 innovations – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in functional training with an emphasis on correctives. To sum it up, I like to say I make older athletes feel young again and extend their careers, not solely me they have the talent and ability I just do my part to help aid that. I’m most proud of all the sweat equity I’ve put in this place and watch it grow in front of my eyes as well as being able to bring the family along as well. My brother Taj works with me and specializes in football skills training and is a huge helping hand and motivation in what I do. What sets us apart from others is the culture and environment. We have an energy and swag when you step in the gym that you can’t buy and we just get the clients and athletes. We also have everything in-house, barbershop, recovery, and doctor Tony Tran who is another huge helping hand in what we do.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proudest moment of my career would be rehabbing Houston dash and US women’s national team soccer player, Kealia Ohai from an ACL injury to a more successful season that she’s ever had. It’s an injury that inspired me to get in this industry, so to be able to go through that pain myself, give back and see her shine again is one of the most uplifting feelings. Plus, she’s a special individual and an amazing client of mine. I owe her a great deal of gratitude as well, when I came to Houston, she was one on my very first clients.
