An Inspired Chat with Christa Mcduell Tubbs of Katy/ Houston

We recently had the chance to connect with Christa Mcduell Tubbs and have shared our conversation below.

Christa, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A big misconception about my business is that professional photography is too expensive or out of reach. The truth is I’m actually very affordable. I’ve structured my pricing so that people can have access to high quality, meaningful photos without breaking the bank. I genuinely love what I do and that love shows in my work. My goal is to pass that passion on to my clients by giving them a fun, memorable experience and beautiful images they can have forever. Photography isn’t just my hobby. It’s something I care deeply about and I want that to come through in every session.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Christa, the lady behind the owner of Cmarie Artistry. I was born and raised in Pearland and now reside in Katy with my husband and our three kids. I’ve worked for the City of Houston for 20 years. Outside of all of that, I’m a proud lupus warrior, and I’m passionate about photography . Cmarie Artistry is all about capturing life’s authentic and heartfelt moments, from family portraits to special milestones and even the smaller memories that often mean the most to clients. My journey has taught me to appreciate the little details and see beauty in everyday life, and that perspective is what makes my work unique. Every session is about telling a story and creating memories that truly feel personal. Right now, I’m focusing on growing my photography projects, connecting with families, and helping people turn their fleeting moments into timeless keepsakes. Photography for me isn’t just about taking pictures…it’s about celebrating life and its moments.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world was when I was first diagnosed with lupus. I had already been dealing with serious health challenges, but hearing my doctors explain that if it had been cancer, I might not have had long to live completely changed my perspective. That moment made me realize how precious life is. It taught me to slow down, appreciate the little things, and truly live each day like it could be my last…cherishing my family, my health, and every small moment.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
My biggest fear is my health holding me back. I’ve let the thought of pain or triggering a flare stop me from pursuing my dreams, even when I really wanted to go after them.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is real, but it is not the full picture. People see me as funny, outgoing, and easy to love, and that is a genuine part of who I am. I love making people laugh and being around good energy. People also know that I put my children first in everything I do. What others do not always see is that I also carry a lot privately. I have learned to be strong and to keep a smile on my face even when I am struggling, so at times the outgoing version of me is also a way of coping. The real me is both the fun and lighthearted person everyone knows and the quieter, more reflective side that not everyone gets to see. Together, that is what makes me whole.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who loved deeply, laughed often, and always tried to lift others up. I want them to say that I was kind, genuine, and put my children first, always doing my best to protect and guide them. I hope they remember that I chased my dreams when I could, faced challenges with courage, and made the people around me feel seen and valued. Most of all, I hope the story they tell is that I lived fully, loved fiercely, and left a positive mark on the lives of those I cared about.
