De’Asia B. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
De’Asia, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The initial hour and a half of my mornings typically involve silencing my alarm, rising from bed, stretching my body, tidying up my sleeping space, cleansing my face, and brushing my teeth. During this routine, I often express gratitude to God for the gift of another day. After that, I take a moment to pull out my devotional book and read the passage for the day. I reflect on its message and set my intentions for the day ahead by reciting affirmations and seeking guidance. By the time I finish, I’m usually preparing to either head to work or embark on my daily activities.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone! My name is De’Asia B., I am the proud owner of De’Asia B Esthetics. With four years of experience as a Licensed Esthetician, I specialize in Facials, Skincare, and Hair Removal, commonly known as Waxing. My passion is in using my skills to help individuals discover and embrace both their outer and inner beauty. I believe that my role extends beyond that of a beauty professional; I see my work as a way to uplift and inspire everyone I meet. For me, this business is not just a job it’s my ministry. I am also grateful that I can integrate my faith as a Christian into my practice, guiding others to experience the greatest love of all, a relationship with God. I strive to not only assist my clients but also to help them recognize and embrace their own unique gifts and talents, often through simple or even deeper conversations. I believe that my business is not one-dimensional; it’s about so much more than just aesthetics. My true passion is in serving and uplifting others, and this is a fundamental part of who I am.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
From my earliest days, the one person who consistently recognized my potential and believed in me was my mother. Even when I struggled to understand the unique aspects of myself, she always identified what I perceived as flaws as my greatest strengths. She would share her wisdom with me, reassuring me that if I held onto my faith and continued to trust in God’s word, I would eventually come to understand my true purpose in life.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One of my greatest fears has always been fully acknowledging my own power in a humble way. I used to shy away from the spotlight, worried about overshadowing others, despite having a natural ability to lead and bring people together. Instead of embracing these qualities, I viewed them as something to fear. I dedicated myself to uplifting others, but I hesitated to invest in my own growth. There was a lingering fear of what I might become, even though my potential was destined for greatness.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One of my core beliefs, to which I have wholeheartedly dedicated myself, is to be a genuine follower and believer in Christ. Despite the challenges and hardships that may arise, I find immense fulfillment in serving others and helping to draw lives closer to God. It is a true sacrifice, yet I cherish it deeply and wouldn’t trade this calling for anything in the world.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I genuinely feel that I am now fulfilling my true purpose in life. My focus has shifted away from worrying about others’ opinions and instead centers on what brings me joy and inner peace. I’ve discovered that I truly thrive when I’m serving and helping others. This realization is one of the reasons I chose to become an Esthetician. While my work encompasses facials and waxing, it also allows me to connect with and positively impact a diverse array of people. So, in this chapter of my life, I wholeheartedly believe I am doing what I was meant to do.
