We recently had the chance to connect with Dena Simmons and have shared our conversation below.
Dena, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now starts around 5 a.m. I get up early, get dressed, and head out for my full-time job. Most mornings are a whirlwind once I leave the house — filled with driving, preparing for meetings, and getting ready for whatever the workday has in store
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Dena!
I’m the owner and photographer behind Dena Simmons Photography. I’m a wife to my husband of 29 years, a proud mom, and soon-to-be Grammy to our very first grandchild!
I’m a natural light photographer who loves capturing each client’s unique story — the real, heartfelt moments that make life so special. My style and brand are simple by design because I believe the photos should speak for themselves and tell the story naturally.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I feel like people are often the ones who break the bonds between one another. We lose faith — in God, in ourselves, and in others.
But I believe it’s God and our faith that can restore those bonds through reconciliation and acts of kindness. Forgiveness — both of ourselves and of others — is what helps mend what has been broken and brings healing to our hearts and relationships.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The one thing I would say is this: no matter how someone grew up, or what they had or didn’t have, we all have the ability to succeed. Life may throw challenges our way, but I like to think of those as just bumps along the road — moments that shape us, not stop us.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
How and who I am in public is the same as how and who I am in private.
I believe you should always be your true self, no matter what. Authenticity matters — it’s what builds trust, connection, and genuine relationships.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would want people to say that I and all around great person.
