Denetro , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am walking a path. Growing Scentify Essence hasn’t been easy, but it has been intentional and filled with purpose. Every step I take in this business comes from a place of faith, hard work, and wanting to create something meaningful for people’s homes and lives. I have learned to trust the process even when the path isn’t clear, because every challenge has taught me something and every win has reminded me why I started. I don’t feel like I’m wandering anymore. I feel guided. I feel aligned. And I know I’m building something real, something lasting, and something that reflects the love and heart I pour into this brand every day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Denetro ( DeeDee )Tealer and I am the owner and creator of Scentify Essence, a home fragrance and self care brand that was born during one of the hardest seasons of my life. After the death of my mother, I needed something that brought me peace, comfort, and a sense of grounding. Creating scents became my healing space, and over time it transformed into a business with purpose.
Scentify Essence is unique because every product is created with intention and emotion. I don’t just craft candles and fragrance products, I create experiences that help people feel connected, comforted, and at home. My mother’s memory lives in the love I pour into this brand, and in the way I strive to bring light into other people’s spaces.
Today, Scentify Essence offers candles, diffusers, fabric sprays, wax melts, and more. I’m focused on expanding the brand, getting into retail stores, and continuing to grow a community that values quality, authenticity, and emotional connection. This journey has shaped me, strengthened me, and pushed me to keep showing up even when it’s just me. And I’m grateful for every person who supports what I’m building.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Wow, I had to really sit with this question because it touched my heart. The person who saw me clearly before I could see myself was my daughter. She saw something in me long before I recognized it, and she sparked a flame in me at a time when I felt completely lost. When I was at my lowest, she reached out with compassion and love. She took me to a candle class while I was deep in depression, and that moment changed everything for me.
She believed in me so strongly that she funded the start of my business. She invested in my dream, my creativity, and the passion I didn’t even realize was still inside me. She saw through the pain I was carrying and reminded me of who I was. I will never forget that. I am forever grateful because she saw what I couldn’t see in myself, and Scentify Essence was born from that love and belief.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wound of my life was the loss of my mother. That pain changed me in ways I wasn’t prepared for. It broke me emotionally and spiritually, and for a long time I didn’t know how to move forward. I went through a deep depression, feeling disconnected from myself and everything around me.
My healing started slowly. It began when I allowed myself to feel the grief instead of hiding it. It continued when my daughter took me to that candle class and reminded me that there was still something inside me worth fighting for. Creating scents became my therapy. Pouring candles became my quiet space. And building Scentify Essence became a way to honor my mother while rebuilding myself.
Through this journey I discovered my mission. I want to bring light, peace, and love into the dark spaces people don’t talk about. I want my products to give comfort, hope, and a sense of calm to those who need it, just like they did for me.
I healed by transforming my pain into purpose. And even though grief doesn’t disappear, I now walk with strength, clarity, and intention. My mother’s memory lives in every product I create, and sharing that light with others has been the most meaningful part of my healing.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would tell you that what matters most to me is my family and my community. I love finding ways to share helpful information, connect people with resources, and offer encouragement whenever it’s needed. Seeing the people I care about grow, thrive, and feel valued is what truly lights me up, and I try to show up for them in every way I can.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply, in a way most people don’t, is the weight and richness of emotions. As an empath, I feel what others feel sometimes even before they do and it goes beyond just sympathy or compassion. I pick up on the energy in a room, the unspoken words, and the subtle shifts in people’s moods. I know how much our surroundings and the energy around us can shape our mental and emotional well-being. Living as an empath has taught me to honor these feelings, both my own and others’, and to use that understanding to offer support, healing, and light where it’s needed most.
