An Inspired Chat with DJ Mike Hi Life

DJ Mike Hi Life shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning DJ , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What battle are you avoiding?
Going to the gym on the days that I am not djing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is DJ Mike Hi Life. I am an open format DJ that specializes in Hip-Hop and R&B. I have a strong passion for music and all elements surrounding the culture. The reason I am a DJ and I love Djing is because my whole life aligns with music and the culture during different times in my life. Its like my life is a soundtrack and theres music that i can remember that will always take me back to a specific time. Right now, I am working on different content for my social media platforms for more visibility and working on starting my podcast that is based around music, entertainment, urban culture, relationships and self help.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom. She would always acknowledge the fact that i was a hard worker and very intelligent. She raised a child to have good common sense because that’s what she demanded from me. She knew that instilling common sense and being a hard worker will get me further in life more than anything so she wouldnt have to worry about me. For a long time, I didnt know what i was gonna do with my life but she knew i would figure it out. She knew that i was gonna be somebody and not sit on my butt.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure and the fear of risks not turning into rewards. Sometimes i play it safe but i think i do that too much. I would like everything i do to work in my favor but in reality, it doesnt work that way. I need to be okay with things not going right.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that what you put in the universe is what you’ll get back. If you treat people with respect, do right by people and maintain a good moral compass, then the universe will always do right by you. If you do the opposite of that, treating people horribly, doing bad business, being a liar, without holding yourself accountable nor making things right etc., then that karma will eventually knock some sense into you like a Mike Tyson upppercut.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
At home with my family. I stay in the suburbs, far away from the city. I love peace, serenity and safety. At this stage in my life, i value that the most. If i am “outside”, please believe i am getting paid for it. Other than that, I am at the crib. I dont see how people are out and about every weekend. Some people have homes that are not peaceful and thats unfortunate.
