An Inspired Chat with Evelyn Hernandez

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Evelyn Hernandez. Check out our conversation below.

Evelyn , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now consists of editing galleries, chasing my toddler throughout my home, and lots of coffee lol

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Evelyn Hernandez and I’m the photographer behind Ev’s Photography. I specialize in capturing moments you’ll love for a lifetime, from the big milestones to the little in between moments that mean the most. What makes Ev’s Photography special is that my work is a true reflection of me. I put my heart into every session, and my style doesn’t look like the next photographer’s because it’s uniquely mine. I believe that connection and personality shine through in photos, and that’s what sets my brand apart.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with my daughter. Before becoming a mom, I often felt like I blended into the background and that no one would really notice if I left the room. But she notices. She looks at me like I’m her whole world and she reminds me daily that I matter. Through her eyes, I’ve learned that my presence is meaningful and that I am somebody.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure has been the biggest thing thats held me back in life. Like most people, I’ve always wanted to succeed at anything I do, sometimes so much that I hesitated to even start. Over time, I’ve learned that I’m capable of doing hard things as long as I try. We only get one life and I’ve realized how important it is to take chances, step outside of my comfort zone, and truly experience life to the fullest.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies I think the photography industry tells itself is that you have to start out with top of the line gear. The truth is you don’t need the newest, most expensive equipment to create meaningful, beautiful work. What matters most is learning your craft and using what you have to the best of your ability. Growth and upgrades can come with time but the important thing is to just start.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes! I can honestly say I’m always excited for every session I schedule. Photography is truly my passion and I feel so lucky that what I do never really feels like “work”. The saying “you’ll never work a day in your life if you love your job” couldn’t be more true for me. Every session is a chance to create something meaningful for my clients and that keeps me excited day after day.
