An Inspired Chat with James Nissen Eucalyption of Baytown

We’re looking forward to introducing you to James Nissen Eucalyption. Check out our conversation below.

Hi James Nissen, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
This is something I’ve been trying to address lately. I’ve realized I’m almost never happy, and there doesn’t seem to be many things that actually bring me joy. Sharing experiences with people I care about, and music in general, are some of the only things that seem to bring me joy, so I’m trying to incorporate more of that in my life. The last time I felt joy was on my way to work earlier today listening to “Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong” by KC and the Sunshine Band.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is James Nissen. My brother Ben and I are the Houston based rock band “Eucalyption.” We Just released our newest song “Let Go” earlier in January, and are set to release our next song “Not Ready” on February 15th, 2026.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child I believed if I achieved certain goals I would be happy, and that’s not true. I’ve achieved so many of the goals I set for myself as a kid and it’s never enough to where I can say “now I’m happy.” I’ve now learned that nothing will “Make” you happy, but you have the option to choose to be happy whenever you want. We have another song titled “Not Enough” that explores those thoughts with a lot of sarcasm. We plan to release it in early March 2026.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to be happy now, and not wait for success to feel better.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Almost nothing actually matters. Your job doesn’t matter, money doesn’t matter, status doesn’t matter, things don’t matter, and nobody cares. The only things that matter are your relationship with God, and sharing experiences with other people.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I close my eyes with headphones on and listen to music that inspires me.
