Jasmine Turner shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Jasmine, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Definitely energy! It’s a language of its own and one I seem to be able to connect with very well. Your energy speaks before you do!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
You KNOW me, it’s ya girl! Lol but seriously, I’m JAYETEEE for those who don’t know. I’m a photographer/Videographer based out of Houston, Tx. I love to connect with other creatives and help collab on projects big and small. I love to be behind the lens and even more so if it’s dealing with Video! Lately I’ve been taking more time to perfect my craft as far as learning new things and deep diving into the production process. I absolutely love making my clients feel comfortable and getting to know them through my lens. I’m always open to working with new people/brands/etc.. Got any ideas? Lets collab!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe we as people had limits. Growing up, I was always taught to just keep your head down, do as you’re told, and do the right thing.. but there’s so much more to life than that! We actually have OPTIONS. What works for you may not necessarily work for me and vice versa. It’s not the height of the civil rights movement nor are we smack dab in the middle of the Jim Crow era anymore either so you don’t always have to take the road most familiar/traveled. WE ARE LIMITLESS! You can do whatever you put your mind to as long as you stick to it and BELIEVE in yourself. Faith w/o works is dead and I’m sure we can all agree that we need both in this lifetime if we ever want to create something worth having!
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Sometimes shit just HURTS! And there’s nothing you can do about it. You have to sit with the pain, the failure.. acknowledge it, and figure out where you went wrong or else you’ll just keep repeating the same karmic cycles over and over. Life doesn’t always feel good and it’s not supposed to. There’s duality in everything; up and down, light and dark, highs and lows. You have to learn to roll with the punches and figure out what’s holding you back so you don’t keep repeating the same mistakes.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
You need the BEST cameras/lights, you need the LATEST equipment, and you have to have the hottest subject/object/location to shoot!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When my brain is OFF. So pretty much when I’m sleep lol
