We recently had the chance to connect with Jehzel Vigoa and have shared our conversation below.
Jehzel, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I’ve been asked this question before and the answer is YES! I love my style. I stay true to color when editing. I pay close attention to detail from removing stretch marks on a pregnancy mama’s belly to giving my client the hour glass figure she wants for her birthday pictures. Many clients are lost when it comes to posing but I’ll help you pose and get in position for that picture perfect shot.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Jehzel Vigoa and i’m a professional portrait photographer serving the greater Houston area. I’ve always had a love for photographing things, such as pets or scenery, since I was a little girl. I consider photography as an art and love to create special images for my clients.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I started medical school right after finishing high school. Many teachers and counselors persuaded me into joining the medical field and would mention the great pay and job opportunities I would have. But after 2 years in medical school I realized I wasn’t happy and knew this wasn’t what I wanted to do for a living. I quickly went to Best Buy and bought the cheapest camera I saw and started taking pictures of everything I saw. From animals to my closest friends.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
100 % yes! I noticed other photographers in the area would post more sessions then me or have a bigger clientele. I questioned myself if I should continue since I was wasting alot of time and money in photography but was not seeing an outcome. I told myself to try one more time and if it didn’t work to look elsewhere. I’m glad I didn’t give up as photography now is my number source of income.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
When they say a higher priced camera creates a better image. Maybe it would give a tad bit higher resolution but who creates the image is the person behind the camera. The photographers skill in editing, posing and unique ideas is what makes a great image.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop wasting time. Put down the cell phone or tv remote and enjoy my time left with my family. Adventure more, travel more and just explore as much as I can with my kids.
