An Inspired Chat with Juanita Brown of Houston (Central)

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Juanita Brown. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Juanita, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Being featured in Houston’s #1 newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, was not only one of the biggest accomplishments of my career so far it was a moment of deep reflection and pride. To have my business, Unlocked Hearts Matchmaking, recognized alongside two incredible companies that have both been in business for over a decade, while I’m only in my fourth year, is both humbling and empowering. This feature was more than just press, it was confirmation that the work I’m doing is truly impacting lives. I’m so grateful for every client who has trusted me on their journey to love, healing, and connection. Brand recognition on this level motivates me to keep going, keep growing, and continue helping people find the relationships they deserve.

Thank you to the Houston Chronicle for shining a light on what we do and to everyone who continues to support and believe in this vision.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Juanita Brown, the founder and lead matchmaker behind Unlocked Hearts Matchmaking, where love meets intentionality. As a dating coach and relationship advocate, I specialize in helping high-achieving singles and couples heal past patterns, embrace emotional intimacy, and create the healthy relationships they truly desire. What sets Unlocked Hearts apart is our heart-centered approach that blends coaching, personalized matchmaking, and therapeutic insight rooted in my background in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I launched Unlocked Hearts just four years ago, and since then, I’ve had the honor of helping countless clients transform their love lives. From one-on-one coaching sessions to transformative retreats like Unlocked & Aligned, and now my newly released book Soft, Secure & Chosen, this brand has become a movement for emotionally intelligent dating and deeper self-love.

Being recently featured in the Houston Chronicle alongside businesses with over a decade of success was a full-circle moment that reminded me how far this vision has come and how much more is ahead. I’m currently focused on expanding our national reach, building community, and continuing to pour into those ready to date with purpose. At Unlocked Hearts, it’s never just about finding someone it’s about becoming the version of yourself who attracts the love you deserve.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I used to believe that being quiet and reserved made me appear stuck up to others. In reality, I simply valued my own space and enjoyed being to myself. Over time, I found myself dimming my light to avoid making others uncomfortable or to prevent them from minimizing my accomplishments. Thankfully, I’ve grown beyond that mindset. I now understand that I should never shrink myself to make others feel more at ease. My light is meant to shine not just for me, but to inspire others to do the same.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most in life has been the fear of failure. At times, I found myself questioning whether I was truly capable or worthy of success, especially when stepping into new and unfamiliar territory. That fear created hesitation and self-doubt, even when I knew deep down I was being called to do more.
But over time, I realized that playing small to avoid failure was its own kind of failure. I’ve learned to reframe failure as a necessary part of growth and success. I want to be an example not just for my children, but for anyone watching especially those who have big dreams but feel stuck in fear. I want them to know that you don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. Courage isn’t the absence of fear it’s moving forward in spite of it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire people who lead with love in everything they do. It’s easy to be driven by ambition or status, but it takes true strength of character to move through the world with compassion, integrity, and authenticity especially when no one is watching. I’m inspired by individuals who choose kindness over ego, who uplift others without expecting anything in return, and who stay grounded in their values no matter the circumstance. That kind of character rooted in love is what I strive to embody in both my personal life and the work I do through Unlocked Hearts Matchmaking.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made them feel seen, loved, and empowered to be their most authentic selves. That I created spaces whether through Unlocked Hearts Matchmaking, my mixers, or everyday conversations where healing, love, and transformation could take place. I want to be remembered as someone who led with heart, walked in purpose, and never dimmed her light. That I didn’t just talk about love, but lived it out loud and inspired others to believe in it again, no matter what they had been through. Most of all, I hope my story reminds people that it’s never too late to rewrite your own.
