We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kiara Rivera. Check out our conversation below.
Kiara , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel that I’m in a transitioning faze of leading people closer to God. I am a living vessel of him and want others to know without him you cannot achieve everything you are destined to achieve in life. I truly want to spread his love and wisdom. A world without God is a scary place. People need to know he is always with us in every step of life’s obstacles.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kiara Rivera, single mom of two and owner of Glamour curl salon & spa here in Houston Tx. Glamour curl is a curl specialty spa that offers full hair & skin services. What makes us unique is that we cater to all textures and nationalities of people. We take pride in teaching our clients how to love and embrace their natural curly hair by teaching them all the hidden gems needed for their hair journey. My goal is to continue to expand the brand and help spread awareness in more areas. I would love to open more shops in different cities & states.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was 17 years old I enlisted in the army. I originally wanted to get into law enforcement aka (FBI) so I decided I wanted that to be my first entry level experience. Growing up I lacked discipline in certain areas of my life and once I enlisted a lot of that changed. Being away from family made me realize how important having my active village was. The army mentally broke me but sooner built me into a way stronger version of myself. It gave me a different perspective on life. It made me appreciate the civilian world and all the things I once took for granted more. The army lit a fire in me to want more but more in a way that had zero limitations. I learned to appreciate my everyday to day life and cherish the people in it.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that even in the darkest times/moments to never stop seeking God for guidance and healing. Suffering is beyond our understanding but to know that God is along side us every step of the way and to know he will never leave us nor forsake us will give you all the confidence you need to come out on top every time. Suffering for me taught me to appreciate the little milestones and to show myself some grace. God can’t hand you the silver platter all at once, he wants to see what you can do with the little he gives you first. My sufffering gave me my voice and built resilience. Success is the echo of your pain. Without the suffering I would have never known who I was internally. Even in my brokenness God has allowed my light to shine through.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is my identity. I feel as if we live in a time and day where others will try and fit in rather than be set apart. I hold myself to a standard and take pride in never settling for anything that doesn’t benefit or suit my life’s morals. Especially raising two young Queens. I never want them to have to lower their values just to feel validated and accepted.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope with the legacy I leave behind people will say she never stopped. I never stopped chasing what life had to offer. I never stopped finding new ways to be a better women, mother, and leader. I never stopped pouring into others and being a light in their life. I want them to say they never stopped seeing Gods love and mercy shine through me.
