An Inspired Chat with Nicole Bean of Montrose, Memorial

Nicole Bean shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nicole, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My Dream life. Most people just see what’s happening on the outside or what I post on Instagram but they don’t see all the work behind the scenes or the passion or the 12 year old girl who was dreaming of what it would be like to accomplish such goals.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! Im Nicole Bean, owner/operator of Pizaro’s Pizza Napoletana & Pizza U in Houston, Tx. Im also a “YouTuber” and content creator. Even though I wear a lot of hats and have multiple interests and jobs, I’ve found that there is time for anything you put your mind to!
Im currently in the middle of planning multiple things, finding and building a new pizzeria location, teaching a professional class for a well known oven company in the DC area, planning a conference for a non-profit I am a founder of and a pizza event coordinator for a Parkinson’s foundation.
Pizza runs my life for the most part, while travel plays huge role in my happiness. Luckily I get to merge both of those!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Everyone struggles with changes both internally and externally throughout various stages in life, I was a wild child. Deep down I still am, it’s manifested in control issues as I’ve gotten older. Personally, I don’t like constraints, in fact I hate being told “no,” but I feel very empowered to prove people wrong or find a way to get a “yes.”
I want to say i’m still that girl who is free and wild at heart but as Ive gotten older, I have learned to work with my wants and needs to allow for me to learn patience—its definitely still very challenging

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I miss the essence of being a child and learning or seeing something for the first time. I often find myself stopping and relishing in the moment to see the world through my eyes as a kid again. It really sparks something so special! I have also sat and watched other people enjoy things, even simple things that make them happy and that makes me truly happy to see others just have joy!
I seriously encourage others to stop and look for joy in something OR just enjoy the joy that others are experiencing can really uplift your mood!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’ve been very committed to supporting, engaging and encouraging women in business, in restaurant and making their own paths (even up the corporate ladder). It’s very important to me to have a support system and encouragement. I was never told “you can do anything,” but it was something I knew was always possible. I think having barbie’s motto around as a young girl was helpful, never was in your face or expressed as loudly as it is nowadays but I did look at strong women positively.
With being a founder of a non-profit geared towards helping women in hospitality, I’m feeling hopeful for giving a platform, events and networking to many who need it and supporting their future to rise to the top. Ultimately, I just want to inspire people to be their best and rise to the occasion.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I believe I have a good understanding that time is not always guaranteed. Many of us take things for granted, I want to say I had that light bulb moment very early during the pandemic but it really ignited something in 2022 when my husband and I decided “F it!”
We said to each other, its just money… we can’t buy time, we can’t go back, we can’t wait for it to be the “right time” so we have been making the most of it. Might seem frivolous, but to us we are “living.” We are taking advantage of the time we have now!
