Ana Magana-Garnica shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Ana, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am walking a path… I’ve been wandering for far too long in the past. In the most recent years I’ve been sticking to my time line of goals and ambitions; setting marks for reaching a purpose will keep you focused. There’s nothing wrong with wandering, but we need stability to make it in this industry.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hydro Skin and Body is a holistic and medical skin care clinic. A personalized approach to skincare, every skin type is different in texture, Fitzpatrick scale (color) , elasticity and more, here we focus on each client with a personalized approach.
We believe in the importance of continuous education to deliver the most advanced and safe treatments. We work with passion and precision to achieve remarkable results, but we also strive to create an atmosphere of tranquility and well-being where you can disconnect from the daily stress.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
This is a very deep and self reflection question… a part of me that has served its purpose and must now be released; it would be people-pleasing; giving my time, energy, and ideas to others’ businesses at the expense of my own growth.. It wasn’t until recently that I had to make this choice moving forward, setting stronger boundaries.
As I continue to grow and learn with shadowing and mentoring other businesses; I must acknowledge my time and my creativity to my own business and fuel my own ideas along the way.
When it comes to uplifting others in business im great to a certain point- meaning I won’t take a step down trying to bring someone up. Being kind is not being weak, don’t allow anyone to undervalue your skills.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Pain is my biggest strength “ I am strong from the fire within me.” Turning something negative into a positive defensive mechanism. Using my pain as power happened when I moved to Houston; on my own, without a job, no social life, little experience, no income, and no home.
This step in my life was a complete reset- that had to take place in order for me to accomplishing my dreams. Waves of emotional pain washed over me as a new young adult in a big city – the pain ignited my power to unlock my potential and to fuel my ambitious side to flames- raging with ambition each day.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Many would say; my religion, my peace and my business really matters to me, I place those 3 things as priority over everything- they’re my non negotiable.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not taking time off, I tend to hyper focus on my career and business non stop. Managing time as a business owner is very tough- specially during the first years.
The one requirement I have set in place for myself before starting my business, was to always take a few days off on airplane mode and simply be a young adult, I have my whole life ahead to be strict.
