Art & Life with Trisha LaCoste

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha LaCoste.

Trisha, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I got my first 35mm camera as a senior I high school. I loved taking photos but I never invested a lot of time in it until I had my first son. I bought my first digital camera (a Sony with a whopping 3.2 megapixels) and started to really immerse myself in photography. I wanted to document everything my son did! I found out I had a good eye for it and pretty soon people started asking me to take photos for them. After having 4 kids, getting divorced, and working insurance for a few years I decided I couldn’t live the rest of my life in a cubicle. I quit my job and pursued photography full-time thinking I would either sink or have to learn how to swim. I’ve been doing photography full-time for 7 years now! I’ve expanded into videography, too. These days I work with lots of musicians, models, influencers, and brands to keep their social media content fresh.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I call myself a visual creative. I am a photographer, videographer, graphic designer, and web designer. I want people to be inspired by my work. I want them to learn to chase their own dreams and passions. Find the thing that lights you up inside and chase after it! If I can do this, so can you!

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
It makes me sad when people treat artists like they aren’t holding a “real” job. I work so many more hours than I did when I worked insurance. I think life has become harder for artists because so many people expect us to do our jobs for free. Everyone needs our services because of social media but no one wants to pay! I don’t know any other industry that comes with that expectation. I think as artists we need to come together and encourage each other. We need to support each other and show other creatives that we value their time and talent. Hire other creatives when you need them and pay them well!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be found on my website (www.trishalacoste.com) or Instagram (www.instagram.com/trisha_lacoste). I’ll be selling prints of my travel photography soon so be looking for more info!
