Big Xodia on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Big Xodia. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Big , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Writing has a way of pulling me in completely. Once I start, the hours disappear because it feels natural, almost effortless. It gives me a sense of strength and confidence, like I’m reconnecting with the part of myself that’s most authentic. Whenever life feels off track, writing grounds me and reminds me of who I am. And don’t even get me started on finishing a song—that moment is unmatched. It’s like everything comes full circle, and I walk away feeling unstoppable.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Big Xodia, and I’m a music artist from Houston, Texas. I specialize in switching between different flows and cadences at a wide range of speeds—something that’s become a signature of my sound.

My journey started in Houston, but I grew up in Hagerstown, Maryland, before moving back to Texas to fully pursue music. I’ve always been deeply connected to internet culture, video games, and even a bit of anime, and those influences show up in my vocabulary and style. Beyond music, I’m also a voice actor and beatboxer, but above all, I’m passionate about pushing my voice and creativity to new levels.

As a kid, I was bullied a lot, and music became my way of fighting back—not with anger, but with growth. I kept sharpening my craft until it became second nature. Along the way, I created a personal motto that guides everything I do: “Die Empty.” To me, that means giving everything you’ve got to the world—emptying out all your creativity, energy, and talent so nothing goes to waste.

That mindset fuels every verse, every performance, and every step of my journey.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a kid, I used to believe I was incapable—that I was the odd one out who couldn’t really do anything. For a long time, I felt abnormal compared to everyone else. But instead of letting that hold me back, I worked hard to figure things out and prove to myself that I could create, achieve, and grow. Looking back now, I never would have expected to become the person I am today, and that transformation means everything to me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me lessons that success alone could never give. It showed me the value of organization—because if your mind and your life aren’t in order, everything else can fall apart. It taught me the importance of time, and how precious it is, because once it’s gone, you can’t get it back. And most of all, it taught me to be myself. When you show up as your true self, you avoid the weight of pretending and open the door for real connections. Those lessons didn’t come easy, but they shaped who I am far more than any victory ever could.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I think the truth is, you can’t wait around for a path to appear—you have to create it yourself. A lot of people hope opportunities will just show up, but life doesn’t work like that. You’ve got to put in the work, carve out your own lane, and stay committed even when no one else believes in it yet. That’s how real progress happens.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. Even if no one noticed or praised my efforts, I’d still give my all. Doing my best isn’t about recognition—it’s about staying true to myself and honoring what I’m capable of. Life won’t always hand you validation, but knowing that I gave everything I had, even when I was my only supporter, is more than enough. It’s proof that I kept my word to myself.
