Today we’d like to introduce you to Damian Cajide.
Damian, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I come from Cuba, got to the US when I was 10. In Cuba there’s simply only a few options for careers, makeup wasn’t one of those. I never had looked at makeup as one though neither did I thought a man could wear it. Till a day in the restroom with my mom getting ready she tells me to try a Foundation that’s too light for herself and from there the makeup journey started.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m mostly known for my makeup artistry, Am what you would call a makeup influencer I translate emotions through my art. Makeup lets me be free and do things that in my everyday life I couldn’t do, it also lets me communicate with others in ways I cannot with just words. I also freelance as a makeup artist helping ladies around Houston feel they are most beautiful on special occasions and looking the way they feel. I’m also a fashion student and working towards building my brand pretty soon.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The space to be seen, nowadays everyone thinks or wants to be a makeup artist or be an influencer. Not all for the same reason and some take many advantage that those that have been sacrificing and working hard to perfect their skills. Also, the fact that we live in an era of “you can do it yourself” kind of thinking because of YouTube, people are requesting makeup artist less every day.
