Check Out Amanda Kay Doubleday’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Kay Doubleday.

Hi Amanda Kay , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Amanda Kay, the heart behind Photos by Mkay Wedding Photography, based in Austin, Texas. I graduated from Texas State in 2014 with a background in copywriting and advertising, but it didn’t take long to realize corporate life wasn’t for me. In 2017, I took a leap and built my own company, capturing love stories all across Texas.

For over nine years, I’ve been documenting weddings throughout Austin and the Texas Hill Country, photographing 250+ celebrations along the way. My style blends vibrant color, real emotion, and a mix of candid moments with guided direction.

To me, photography is about more than just beautiful images. It’s about how your day felt. My goal is to create galleries that take you right back to those moments every time you look at them.

Every couple is different, and I lean into that. I tailor each experience and every gallery to reflect your story, your energy, and your day as it truly was. Telling your story, one shutter click at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There will always be challenges in business. During COVID, the challenge wasn’t restrictions as much as the sheer volume. So many couples still chose to move forward or reschedule, and I found myself shooting close to 50 weddings a year. It was intense, fast-paced, and honestly pushed me to my limits both creatively and physically.

Now that things have settled a bit, the challenges look different. Being a photographer today means wearing every hat. I’m not just behind the camera. I’m also the content creator, editor, accountant, salesperson, and customer support, all in the same day. Balancing the business side with a personal life can be one of the hardest parts.

But those seasons taught me how to adapt and build something that’s truly my own.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a wedding photographer based in Austin, Texas, specializing in capturing love stories in a way that feels real, emotional, and true to each couple.

I photograph weddings across Austin and the Texas Hill Country, blending candid moments with guided direction so nothing ever feels forced. I’m known for vibrant, romantic imagery and for being a built-in hype girl on wedding days, helping my couples feel comfortable, confident, and fully present.

What sets me apart is my personalized approach. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all photography. Every gallery is tailored to the couple, the season, and the overall vibe of the day. What I’m most proud of is the experience I create from start to finish, making the process feel easy, intentional, and something my couples can truly enjoy.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is the life I’ve built, both personally and professionally. I care deeply about my work and the couples I get to serve, but at the heart of it all is my husband and our boxer pup, Birdie (aka Lady Bird Doubleday). They’re my grounding force and the reason I get to show up and do what I love every day.
