Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris”King Creole “ Roy.
Hi Chris”King Creole “, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started creating music as a hobby pre covid doing competitions on mobile apps. After a year I started to gain recognition and was invited out to pod cast interviews for Rapchat and even video shoots for songs I had created in these apps. It was at that time
I started to take it a little more seriously. I slowly started releasing songs I had recorded on my phone and really working on my writing. I was able to compete in a cover song contest that put on stage in Motown where I won 3rd and made some great connections with the Moy family. Sylvia Moy was the first female producer for Motown and was responsible for saving young Stevie Wonders career. I’ve since gone back to work with them on upcoming projects with Sony. I also competed and won the UpAbove talent search with Houston legend Lil Flip. After releasing two singles with the label I also appeared on his album Fear of Going broke providing hooks on several songs most notably “Grown man “&”Do you ever feel like”. I perform throughout Houston showcasing at The House of Blues Foundation with Counter Culture Management, as well as offering stage performances workshops to help up and coming artists command the stage. I believe hard work, dedication and passion and prayer will allow you to achieve your goals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing has been smooth. I’ve learned to trust myself more. Things sometimes do not go as planned and you have to be patient. I’ve had deals fall through struggles, to build a true fanbase, mental health battles questioning if this was really my calling. All in all my faith, other artists and my family have motivated me to be strong and use the gift God has given me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been told my live performances are soulful and personal. I don’t sound like anything or anyone else. You can hear the influence but it’s still true to me and my sound. I pride myself on my writing. I don’t use profanity in my works. I think we can paint a more vibrant picture if we truly dig deep into our writing and minds. I’m very proud I was able to to make that transition because it allows for my children and everyone to be able to enjoy this art.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Ai is the biggest shift I see. It’s a great tool and it’s not going anywhere. It’s been present in many sessions I have sat in and will be a standard I think for any high level studios. But this make it all that more important to support live music and come out to these shows. The human experience will always win.
