Today we’d like to introduce you to Tania Ortiz.
Tania, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
If I’m being completely honest, I never thought I would be doing photography. But then again the best things in life are the ones that come unexpectedly.
The birth of my daughter is truly what ignited it all. I was always taking photos of her (as most mothers do haha) because I want her to look back and see all the beautiful memories of her as a little girl.
Then my life took a traumatic and drastic turn. It changed my life completely. I had to accept a new normal, yet still figure out how I would financially provide for my child.
I have to thank my family and friends immensely for being there for me in any way they were able to.
Especially one of my dearest friends who noticed how much I loved photographing my daughter — so much that she suggested I turn it into a “side hustle.” I laughed it off thinking no one would spend their hard earn money on a girl who had no experience. That was six years ago…. I’ve never looked back.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t easy taking this leap of faith. I second guessed myself a lot because again, I lacked experience. I was self taught so I often compared my work to other photographers. I also think that’s normal as an up and coming photographer. Imposter syndrome is real.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m Tania, a Houston lifestyle photographer based out of Pearland, TX. I’ve been documenting people’s memories for 6 years now. I think what has kept me busy these years is how I capture moments. I take pride in keeping my work organic, authentic, in the moment. My goal is and has always been to make your experience with me fun and enjoyable, and thankfully my clients can agree! I’m so grateful for all the times I hear someone express how comfortable I made them feel. It truly is a rewarding feeling for me.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as being able to turn my passion into something meaningful while creating an experience that makes my clients feel valued and confident. For me, it’s not just about how much my business grows financially, but also about the relationships I build, the memories I get to capture, and the impact my work has on others. Success means growing a business that I’m proud of, staying true to my vision, and knowing that the work I create genuinely means something to the people who trust me with it.
