We’re looking forward to introducing you to Cheri Joseoh. Check out our conversation below.
Cheri, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes consist of brushing my teeth, getting dressed to workout, drink a cup of hot arrowroot and then out for an hour run and workout for 20 minutes.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Cheri. I’m a UGC Creator and founder of 2 companies. Socièl Muse, a social media agency, and Cheri Joseph Payroll Consulting, a payroll tax & compliance consulting business.
I’ve been working corporate in the payroll profession for 30+ years. In the midst I had discovered UGC. I worked with some amazing brands and landed 3 brand deals in my first 3 months where I made $20k. Once others heard my story they asked me to help them and that’s when I decided to create my social media agency.
August of last year, I left corporate, however I realized there was a need for a specific type of fixer in payroll and created my consulting business.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my nephew & nieces. I helped raise them, not realizing they were secretly observing me. I watched them develop into their own personalities. Then each individually telling me how I contributed to their lives.
They said they saw confidence and unique characteristics and how good I was at “stuff”. And they wanted to be like me… confident.
I’d always felt afraid to be myself. Afraid to put myself out there. These kids changed the way I thought and saw myself. Now, if it’s possible and even if it’s not, I’m confident in at least trying.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I want to tell her that that BIG dream is possible. You’re not weird. You do have a special gift.
Let them make fun of you. Let them tease you. You’re in a league of highly intelligent and educated individuals. You don’t fit the mold of normal. And it’s ok.
Fulfill your dream, Cheri. It’s ok to be you. They mocked Jesus, girl.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I’m me no matter where I’m at or what I’m doing. And people trust me knowing that. I don’t try to be a chameleon.
I don’t know how to be anyone else. I’m really, really, really, really good at being me.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I didn’t do it for me. I did it for the ones who needed to know it’s possible.
My legacy is creating something that’s not just profitable, but helps others that love the Arts & being creative. I helped in my bringing my family’s legacy to life.
