Cheryl L. Tubbs shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Cheryl L. , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, my husband and I were able to purchase our first home and I’m really proud and grateful God blessed us to be able to this!! That process is not for the weak by any means, but it showed me that when you pray and lean on God 100 percent, He will do the rest. It also showed us how important communication and team work are so important to a marriage and partnership; I’m more so proud of me and my husband for how we came together and closer through this process. God really showed me that Josh, my husband, is really down for me, us, and our family unit.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone, my name is Cheryl Tubbs and I’m the owner of Around The Way Photography. I’m a portrait photographer based in Houston, Texas. I specialize in Family, Children/Teen, and BTS/Branding photography. I’ve always loved pictures, photographs, and images of people; the joy and love being captured in that single moment lasts forever and that is so amazing that I’m able to capture that for people brings me so much joy. I believe what sets me apart is my over 10 years of customers service. I always strive to make sure my clients have a great experience from when they fill out the inquiry questions to when they receive their gallery. That they know they can always reach out to me and they are my priority; treating them with kindness and respect so they feel welcomed.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I actually have two answers for this question. First, my mother. Mother’s just always know or feel that their children are on the cusp of being great, but we(the children) just can’t see it yet. I mentioned I like taking pictures of my friends at school maybe once to her. I can’t remember what birthday it was, but she gifted me with a disposable camera and the note said,”I know you’ll be great, remember you can do anything, just keep Jehovah God first!” That was the best gift she could have ever given me; knowing she believed I could do it before I even really knew.
Second, Josh, my husband. In the beginning of my photography journey, I had a lot of self-doubt about my art and what I wanted to focus on. He just really poured into me and told me that I care about others and that’s what makes me different. His positive words, patience, and nurturing spirit made me feel seen and it built my confidence in a way that allowed me to believe in myself, my creative eye, and the gift God blessed me with and share that with others. I will always love my mother and my husband for seeing and believing in me when I wasn’t able to see it for myself.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that it’s okay to be different; that’s what makes you special and unique! Continue to be kind because it will be a lasting impression on people and they will always remember how special you made them feel. Lean in to your uniqueness because it will create opportunities for you that may not be available to others. Continue putting God first because He will ALWAYS bring you through!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest, core friends would definitely say my family matters the most to me. As well as being loyal to them(my friends); I feel like loyalty and family and friend relationships go hand-in-hand with one another. My family is where I feel most at home and I will protect them fiercely. My friends are like family so I will go hard behind them because they are my chosen family that have been there for me for my highs and my lows and loved me through it all.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in my creative zone. I block out everything and focus on the vision I’m wanting to execute and making sure it’s something people can feel and relate to. I’m able to just be and live in that moment of putting what’s in my head out there to the world and making sure they are able to see me and the love I put into my art.
