Hi Dorcas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2019 when I launched BossCreations, an event décor business, with a passion for creativity and bringing people’s visions to life. What started as a love for decorating gradually turned into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
Like many entrepreneurs, I didn’t start with everything figured out. I learned through trial and error, long nights, financial challenges, and plenty of lessons along the way. I had to teach myself not only how to become a better decorator but also how to actually run a business.
Over the years, BossCreations has grown from providing smaller event setups to designing and producing weddings, milestone celebrations, corporate events, and large-scale experiences throughout Southeast Texas, Houston, and Louisiana.
As my business grew, I realized there was another opportunity right in front of me. I was constantly creating custom signage and event graphics, which eventually led me to expand into printing with Boss Prints. What started as a way to support my decorating business became another business opportunity of its own.
One of my biggest lessons has been understanding that growth sometimes requires change. In 2026, I made the decision to reposition BossCreations into a more luxury focused event decor and production company. This transition wasn’t just about increasing prices or creating beautiful events. It was about building better systems, establishing boundaries, understanding my value, and creating a business that could grow beyond just me.
I’m still learning, still growing, and still figuring things out. Entrepreneurship hasn’t been easy, and there have definitely been moments when I’ve questioned myself. But every challenge has taught me something valuable.
Today, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m even more excited about where I’m going. My goal is to continue expanding both businesses, create opportunities for others, and build something that my daughter can one day be proud of.
I want my story to show that you don’t have to have everything figured out to get started. Sometimes you just have to start, stay consistent, learn from your mistakes, and be willing to evolve.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! My entrepreneurial journey has been anything but smooth. There have been plenty of moments when I’ve questioned whether I was making the right decisions, but I’ve learned that growth comes with challenges.
One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to separate my passion for decorating from the business side of things. When I first started BossCreations, I was so focused on creating beautiful events and making clients happy that I wasn’t always paying attention to whether I was actually making a profit. I undercharged, overworked myself, and sometimes invested more time and money into events than I should have.
Another major challenge has been trying to wear every hat in my business. From communicating with clients and creating designs to purchasing supplies, managing employees, handling finances, and physically setting up events, it can become overwhelming. There were times when I was so busy working in my business that I wasn’t spending enough time working on my business.
Financial challenges have also been a part of my journey. Running an event décor business requires a significant amount of money upfront, especially when you’re constantly investing in equipment, inventory, and materials. Learning how to manage cash flow while continuing to grow has definitely been a learning experience.
I’ve also struggled with setting boundaries. As a business owner, you want to accommodate everyone, but I’ve learned that you cannot build a successful business by constantly sacrificing your time, energy, and profitability to please others.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that being booked and busy doesn’t necessarily mean you’re running a successful business. You can have a calendar full of events and still not be making the money you should be making.
Those experiences played a huge role in my decision to transition BossCreations into a luxury event experience brand. I realized that if I wanted my business to reach another level, I had to change the way I operated, valued my services, and approached growth.
I’m still navigating challenges today, but I no longer look at them as failures. I look at them as lessons that are helping me become a better entrepreneur.
If there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that building a business requires more than talent. It requires discipline, patience, resilience, and the willingness to make uncomfortable changes.

BossCreations is a Southeast Texas-based event décor and production company specializing in creating luxury event experiences. Established in 2019, we proudly serve Southeast Texas, Houston, Louisiana, and surrounding areas. What began as a passion for decorating has evolved into a brand focused on transforming ordinary spaces into unforgettable experiences.
We specialize in weddings, milestone celebrations, corporate events, class reunions, private parties, and other special occasions. Our services include custom backdrop designs, luxury tablescapes, floral arrangements, draping, balloon installations, personalized event signage, and complete event décor production.
What sets BossCreations apart is our ability to bring an entire vision together, not just decorate a space. We focus on the details, from the moment guests enter an event until they experience the final reveal. I believe event décor should tell a story, reflect the client’s personality, and create an atmosphere that people remember long after the celebration ends.
One thing I’m particularly proud of is our creativity and versatility. We don’t believe every event should look the same. Whether we’re creating an elegant wedding reception or a bold, themed birthday celebration, our goal is to deliver something unique to each client. I take pride in being able to look at an empty venue and envision what it could become.
In 2026, BossCreations entered a new chapter with the introduction of BossCreations Luxury Event Experiences. This transition represents more than a rebrand. It’s a shift toward more intentional designs, elevated services, stronger business systems, and a greater focus on the overall client experience. We’re moving beyond simply providing decorations and focusing on creating thoughtfully designed, professionally executed events.
Alongside BossCreations, I’ve also expanded into the printing industry with Boss Prints, a custom printing business specializing in large-format event graphics, photo boards, banners, personalized signage, cutouts, and other printed products. Having both businesses allows me to combine my passion for event design with custom production while also serving customers who need printing services independently.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built these businesses from the ground up. I didn’t have a blueprint or all the resources when I started. Everything I’ve accomplished has come through experience, creativity, determination, and a willingness to learn.
As a business owner, I want people to understand that BossCreations is more than a decorating company. We’re a growing brand with a vision to become a recognized name in luxury event design and production.
My ultimate goal is to continue expanding, building a strong team, creating employment opportunities, and developing a business that can operate and thrive beyond my personal involvement in every event.
If there’s one thing I want readers to remember about BossCreations, it’s that we don’t just decorate events. We create experiences, and we’re only getting started.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Canva is a favorite of mine. Being in the event décor and printing industry, visual presentation is extremely important. Canva allows me to create marketing materials, promotional graphics, and other designs that help bring my ideas to life.
I also find a lot of inspiration through Pinterest, especially when researching design trends, color combinations, and unique event concepts. However, I always challenge myself to take inspiration and turn it into something that reflects my own creativity rather than simply recreating someone else’s work.
Outside of apps, one of my greatest resources has been conversations with other business owners. I’ve learned that sometimes the most valuable business advice doesn’t come from a book or podcast but from someone who has already experienced the challenges you’re currently facing.
As I continue growing, I’m becoming more intentional about surrounding myself with people and resources that challenge my thinking and push me to become a better business owner.
I believe one of the smartest things an entrepreneur can do is recognize that they don’t know everything and remain willing to learn.
