Community Highlights: Meet Hannah Keller of Haven Hair Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Keller.

Hi Hannah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my hair journey in my small town in Mississippi. I have always been drawn to the beauty industry and even more drawn to meeting new people. I was sitting in a salon chair getting my hair done my senior year of high school. As I was looking around at all the hustle and bustle of the busy salon, women talking and music playing, I knew then I wanted to do this. It looked so fun!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any job, nothing is a smooth road. But I worked long hours, came in when I didn’t have clients to watch and learn from my co workers and said yes to every opportunity. Then I had to do it all over again when I moved to Texas. One thing about being a hairstylist: if you move, it’s like starting over again to build a clientele.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Haven Hair Studio?
What I want people to know most about my business is that I have tried my best to make it a safe space for my clients. I have seen and heard it all from my clients over the past 11 years. I’ve been told about marriages, divorces, pregnancies, miscarriages, cancer diagnosis and everything in between. I want my clients to feel like I’m a safe haven. Hence the name of my salon. Everyone is welcome. I take pride in the connections and bonds I have built with these women. I specialize in haircuts and blonding and as funny as it may sound, I also specialize in being able to connect with these women through all of the good and bad.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think opening a business is all about risk taking! I took the risk of moving from Mississippi to Texas in the middle of my career and starting over. I put all my faith in God and knew whatever His plan was, was what was best for my business and He didn’t fail me.
